2 ACB as an Institution An intergovernmental regional centre of excellence established through an agreement in 2005 among the Governments of the ASEAN Member States, namely: Brunei Darussalam Myanmar Cambodia Philippines hl Indonesia Singapore Lao PDR Thailand Malaysia Vietnam ACB Mandate To facilitate cooperation and coordination among the 10 ASEAN Member States on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of such biodiversity in the ASEAN region 2

6 Initiatives In2011 and 2012, ACB collaborated with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and GIZ to jointly undertake projects on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) for Southeast Asia. ACB organized high level policy dialogues that brought together senior officials from the different sectors of government (i.e. environment, finance, economics/planning) in Southeast Asia on TEEB ACB reached out to senior officials from ASEAN bodies beyond the environment sector: ASEAN Finance Deputies and ASEAN Senior Economic Officials. 6
7 ACB support to inclusion of environmental valuation in updating National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) of ASEAN Member States Inclusion of environmental valuation in ASEAN Heritage Parks management plans Way Forward for Environmental Valuation in the ASEAN Region ACB and GIZ to launch the ASEAN TEEB Programme: maintain the momentum of TEEB mainstreaming and application; and initiate and encourage further development and implementation of TEEB and TEEB related activities in the ASEAN region. 7
8 ACB and Environmental Economics Program for Southeast Asia (EEPSEA) signed Letter of Cooperation as a joint commitment to moving forward the agenda of enhanced biodiversity conservation by advocating environmental economics and resource valuation in the ASEAN region. ACB to strengthen the ASEAN Heritage Parks to include environmental valuation, participation of stakeholders. Continuous partnership with international organizations and bodies dealing with environmental valuation and accounting. 8
