1 CONGRESS CIVIL-MILITARY COOPERATION An Alliance for the Future? Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, the new face of global security at the start of the 21 st century brings new challenges for all German organisations that are active in crisis zones. The complexity of tasks such as state- between experts building in Afghanistan leads to an ever growing need for a closer cooperation in different fields. Members of the armed forces, police officers, diplomats and development workers have to combine their efforts to achieve common goals. But this so called Civil-Military Cooperation doesn t come without controversies: Development workers are afraid to lose their independence, soldiers find themselves overburdened with civilian tasks and police officers bemoan the dangers of blurring the line between military and police operations. How can there be a compromise between these concerns and the need for a better cooperation? Does Germany need a new concept for Civil-Military Cooperation? The CDU/CSU parliamentary group would like to discuss these issues with you on Monday, 29 th November 2010, 02:00-06:00 p.m., at the convention hall of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, German Bundestag, Reichstagsgebäude, Berlin and to hear the opinions of experts with a political, practical and scientific background.
