Welcome to the meeting Chair called the meeting to order. Internet connection to was initiated to assist discussions. It was discusses that Faroe Islands have not been represented in the meetings and being inactive also on the previous conference periods, and Risto will contact Bjarni to check if he will be available in the future. 2. Agenda The agenda was accepted with two coffee breaks and a lunch break scheduled. 3. Previous meeting minutes and actions Minutes of the previous meeting ( ) was accepted with minor changes, which are included in version dated Olli will contact on Secretary of the Finnish group (Per-Håkan Appel), to ask whether it is possible to got backup copy of NVF-32 material in the old site. If this is not the case, Risto and Olli will manually move material to the new web site.

2 Minutes of meeting 2 (5) 4. News/activities of country groups FI: own tunnel TC is established with Olli as a chair and Bjarne Liljestrand, Skanska, as secretary. DK: upload of country group meeting agenda and minutes on the web site has been done in the past is favoured also in the present. See decision below NO: Self compacting concrete workgroup draft working plans and list of participants have been sent to the meeting participants by IS: Iceland group will consist on 6 members. There will be a separate tunnel TC It was noted that members list in are not up to date, see decision below. Decisions Country group meeting agenda and minutes are to be send to Risto (cc to Olli) for uploading onto the web site in appropriate location (meetings national groups country ID). Bridge TC country chairmen will prepare and send update members list, and send it to their NVF country chairs with cc to Risto and Olli. 5. Bridge TC s Implementation plan for the conference period Implementation plan will be written by Risto and Olli due by taking into account the following: annual bridge conferences will be hold 2009 Sweden, 2010 Norway, 2011 Denmark and as a session in Via Nordica 2012 Iceland annual bridge conferences will be open to BRA representatives. Presentations run in English will be collected to a same session (e.g. plenary session in the beginning of the conference). Nordic languages are continued as conference official language separate NVF-BRA bridge conference will be fully contributed, if BRA will have interest on arranging one. Venue could be within the Baltic Countries as well separate workshops may be arranged by Working Groups (WG) including the Corrosion WG and the Eurocode WG minimum 2 physical and 2 telephone meetings of Chairman and Secretary are arranged annum. 6. Working groups of the bridges technical committee (All) - Corrosion

3 Minutes of meeting 3 (5) WG has release its final report in Via Nordica 2008, and will arrange a workshop for disseminating the results. It could be a separate event or in conjunction with Swedish (2009) or Norwegian (2010) Bridge conference - Self compacting concrete WG continues work from previous conference period. Norwegian team has finalized a report on Norwegian data, from which the other countries will take the format. New proposed leader is Synnøve Myren, Norwegian Public Road Administration - Eurocodes Heikki Lilja (Finnish Road Administration) was proposed as new leader. WG will mainly work in workshops. - Structural monitoring (formerly new technologies) is new proposed WG. WG concentrates on producing a report on recent technology development and practical projects in structural monitoring systems for road bridges, and new assessment methods taking benefit on structural monitoring. Risto was proposed as a leader. - Contracting methods In new proposed WG. Claus Nødgaard Hansen, Danish Road Directorate (DK) was proposed as a leader. WG will work in co-operation with Markets and Organization TC, which is lead by Bjørn Selnes, Norwegian Public Road Administration (NO) - Bridge maintenance WG is old group but new in NVF, and deals with networking of experts of Nordic road administrations. The WG s readiness to work under NVF and the Bridges TC will be discussed in later on. It is expected, however, that working under Bridge TC will not substantially change the work, except that the participants will be encouraged to join their country group of the Bridge TC - Bridge water proofing systems In new proposed WG. As background research projects exists for this WG, workshop-based methodology might by the most viable alternative. Establishement of WG will be further processed by the Swedish group. Decisions Synnøve Myren, Statens vegvesen (NO) will act as leader of the self-compacting conrete WG Heikki Lilja, Finnish Road Administration (FI) will act as leader of the Eurocode WG Risto Kiviluoma, WSP (FI) will act as leader of the Structural Monitoring WG Claus Nødgaard Hansen, Danish Road Directorate (DK) will act as leader or the contracting methods WG The named WG leaders will prepare a short description/plan of the work, to be send to Risto (cc. to Olli) to be uploaded to the web site. Country chairmen will circulate

4 Minutes of meeting 4 (5) the documents in national groups for asking new members to join and giving comments on work. 7. Discussion of NVF Bridge Conference 2009, Sweden Proposed date for the conference was first week of September 2009 (between days ). Nominal duration of the conference is two days. The conference include one day technical session, chairmen & secretary meeting and a technical tour. Proposed venue is Gothenburg or Stockholm. Tentatively schedule for planning is - Jan-09 theme selection, and verification of speakers - Apr-09 invitation and program - Sep-09 conference Practical arrangements of the conference will be taken care by the Swedish group. Ideas discussed for the theme include: - name Bridges and Bridge Builders in the Future - sub-themes to include o follow-up of the past conference in Sweden o education of bridge engineers o education of bridge builders o globalization effect to engineering and construction o construction methods and new materials o design methods - past-present-future aspects to take into account in presentation - panel discussion at the end, to establish e.g. announcement of concerns needing actions by NVF. The Swedish group will process the ideas further to be discussed in the next meeting. 8. Any other business Co-operation with IABSE country groups may be evolved. For example Danish Bridge Builder Award will be established by the NVF and IABSE country groups. If NVF arranges a major bridge conference, the invitation may be circulated in BRA, PIARC and IABSE contact lists. Danish Road Directorate is active in PIARC bridge TCs and Vibeke will send the list of contact persons. 9. Next meeting Friday , telephone meeting 13:00 CET Also agreed
