1 Protocol DEFINITION Protocol is really simple courtesy and good manners, or etiquette. All organizations have their own code of courtesy (Protocol), e.g. Governments, Churches, etc. The Lions Clubs International Official Protocol is simple and reasonable. [ 禮貌規則 ] Good Lions Protocol does not begin at the start of a function nor ends with that function. Good Lions Protocol includes the preparatory stage of a function and ends with a letter of appreciation and thanks to the invited guests or donors. 1

2 International Level Official Protocol The following is the official protocol policy of the International Association of Lions Clubs. Only the principal speaker is required to acknowledge all dignitaries present 2

12 Constitution & by-law International The membership of this association shall consist of Lions clubs, duly organized and chartered under the provisions hereof District governors shall serve a term of one year which term shall begin with the close of the association s convention held in the year of their election and end at the close of the next convention of the association 12

13 District The members of this Organization shall be all the Lions clubs in the District chartered by Lions clubs International Club Individual membership by invitation Officers Lions Club The officers of this club shall be a president, immediate past president, the vice president(s), secretary, treasurer, Lion tamer (optional), tail twister (optional), membership director and all other elected directors. 13

14 Consensus of Protocol Practice To erase those ambiguous standpoints To standardize the Protocol for the District to follow Term of President From the date of the District Governor presides his position usually the closing date of the International Convention Installation Ceremony of the president is the formality. 15 Protocol of Panel Will practise the International Association guideline On floor, Protocol may be in local practice Installation of individual club To avoid the swap of the seats of current President and incoming President, it is suggested that the incoming President should be the chairperson During ceremony of installation, the current president should remain seated on panel even though he/she is one of the cabinet officers. It is the usual practice and also the status is ex-officio 15

16 Minor Careless Practice Issues Protocol 1. Seating plan, panel and sequence of speakers should be in the same order and corresponding to each other Sequence of addressing should correspond with seating plan and panel Full address to function chairperson, DG, PIDs and VDG 16

17 2. Master of ceremony should be familiar with the function and protocol set to this function. It is welcome for the Leo to be MC. However the address of the Lion will be as Lion not 獅伯 MC addressing the panel guest from left to right or right to left, not follow the protocol 3. Tail twister should not ask guests to contribute any penalty. Cabinet officers do not have to take initiative to contribute. We have to retain our traditional culture. 18 4. DG Visit & Cabinet Officers Visit: DG Visit District Governor is the only speaker and guest of honor Cabinet Officers Visit That visiting officer is the only speaker and guest of honor 5. The chairperson should be always a chairperson in the function or meeting. The chairperson should not be replaced in due course 18

Installation ceremony should be a formal event chairperson & participants should put on proper dress code jeans, T-shirts & shorts should be politely invited to depart from the venue formality should follow the Lions usual practice 7. DG Advisory Committee meeting, zone chairperson is the chairperson of the meeting not DG. It is not necessary to invite any cabinet officers. However if DG would like to attend, it is another matter. Dining invitation is always welcome after meeting. A report of meeting is a must. 19
