1 To: Rishi Adhikari and Roger Skirrow From: Nerissa Dharma, Leslie Cho, and Junwen Yang Stantec File: Date: June, Reference: North Central Region Edson Site NC HWY :, Deer Lodge Spring Task C: Instrumentation Monitoring Report. OBSERVATIONS. FIELD PROGRAM AND INSTRUMENTATION STATUS The Spring reading cycle consisted of instrument readings on one () slope inclinometer (SI-R), one () standpipe piezometer (SP) and two () vibrating wire piezometers (VW- and VW-). The instruments were read by Nerissa Dharma, EIT and Sam Toms on May,. SI-R and SP are encased within a flush mount casing on the shoulder of Highway. SI-R was found damaged during Fall reading cycle. The slope inclinometer (SI) was measured using a RST MEMS digital inclinometer probe with. m increments and handheld PC. Readings were taken based on cable markings in relation to the top of SI casing. The vibrating wires (VW) were measured using a Slope Indicator readout box.. INSTRUMENTATION READINGS. GENERAL SI plots are provided in the attachments and summarized in the following sections. Resultant plots in the x-direction along with movement rates, total cumulative movement, maximum movement rates, and incremental movements are provided in Table NC-. Piezometer information is summarized in Table NC-.. ZONES OF MOVEMENT No new zones of movement were observed in any of the slope inclinometers since the Fall reading cycle. Table NC- summarizes the SI readings since installation. Directions of movement reported are referenced to the Azimuth of the A+ groove for each SI casing. nd v:\\active\\nc sites\_edson_nc\task c instrumentation\\spring_\ nc spring instrumentation report.docx
2 June, Rishi Adhikari and Roger Skirrow Page of. MONITORING RESULTS.. Slope Inclinometers SI-R has a distinct movement zone at about m depth, however a small to negligible movement rate (. mm/yr) was measured in Spring. The overall rate of movement in SI-R was approximately mm/yr from to. A decrease in overall movement rate to approximately mm/year was observed following. The September reading observed a higher rate of movement of about mm/year and has since decreased to less than mm/year since Fall when the site was remediated. SI-R was found damaged and could not be read in Fall reading cycle... Piezometers Since Fall, the water level in SP- has generally been within. m to. m below ground surface (bgs). However, during Spring reading cycle, the water level increased by. m to. m bgs and is the highest recorded since initialization. Two () vibrating wire piezometers were read and have been summarized in Table NC-. VW- showed an decrease in water level of. m since the previous reading and VW- showed a decrease in water level of. m.. RECOMMENDATIONS. FUTURE WORK It is recommended that all instruments be read in the Fall cycle.. INSTRUMENTATION REPAIRS SI-R was found damaged and could not be repaired. No other instrumentation repairs are required at this time. nd v:\\active\\nc sites\_edson_nc\task c instrumentation\\spring_\ nc spring instrumentation report.docx
