5 Sustainable development at Danone Sustainable development, development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. It contains within it two key concepts: the concept of needs, in particular the needs of the world s poor, to whom overriding priority should be given, and the idea of limitations imposed by the state of technology and our social organization on the environment s ability to meet present and future needs. Brundtland Report
6 Sustainable development at Danone Danone and the dual principle Corporate responsibility does not end at the factory gate or at the office doors. The jobs a business creates are central to the lives of employees, and the energy and raw materials we consume change the shape of our planet. The public sphere is here to remind us of our responsibilities. The Danone business model relies on a simple principle: economic performance and attention to people go hand in hand. Antoine Riboud,1972
7 Sustainable development International actions Everywhere we go, Danone is involved in sustainable development projects related to: Healthy nutrition Access to nutrition Social conscience and raising awareness The environment Getting involved in social change: Danone Communities Danone created a fund to help develop socially responsible businesses. Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, Grameen Bank (micro-credit) Bangladesh
8 Sustainable development International actions Poland - Danone Share your meal Danone and several NGOs organized a food drive for children with nutritional deficiencies, with the support of over 700 supermarkets. South Africa Danimals Affordable nutrition Energy and vitality After an extensive study, Danone South Africa created and distributed a dairy product fortified with vitamin A, iron and zinc for just 1 rand (14 cents) per serving.
