Additional Capabilities in Intelligent Water that will be based on the IOW platform

Asset based Capabilities that are based on the IOW platform Non Revenue Water Pressure Management Optimize pressure in water network without compromising quality of service Reduce leakage (due to lowered overall pressure) Extend asset life (lower stress on infrastructure) Lower energy costs (lower pressure means less energy needed) Water Conservation Portal Provide citizens with a portal to view and manage their water consumption Comparisons with peer households Leak Alerts, Consumption alerts Social networking and teaming Incentives / disincentives to reduce consumption Reduce costs and improve efficiency by improving water demand forecasting Smart Metering Analytics Identify which meters/accounts in the network are faulty and/or tampered with Increase revenue recapture Reduce cost of maintenance (targeted instead of schedule based maintenance Urban Flood Management Use weather prediction capability to forecast potential urban flooding Take proactive action to mitigate damage and prepare emergency response via Standard Operating Procedures (SoP) Analyze post-crisis data to streamline future responses and mitigate issues

IBM is helping a leading water utility dynamically manage its water pressure to reduce pipe bursts and leakage and lower energy consumption Business Value Minimize leaks while preserving sufficient pressure to end customers and extending asset life Pipe burst are down 20% over 3 months Provide recommendations to maintain required level of pressure yielding reduction in water wastage, as well as reductions in energy & maintenance costs Find the optimal location of valves to enable the most effective pressure management. Can handle generic water network structures (e.g., not restricted to DMAs) Client Challenge The client wants to maintain the appropriate level of pressure. Low pressure may result in inability to satisfy demand and customer complaints while excess pressure results in a high number of leaks and bursts loss of water, and wasted energy. The client has several, oftentimes conflicting, pressure management goals: - Reduce leaks/bursts and water loss - Maintain required tank levels - Increase turnover of water in tanks - Reduce energy costs 22

IBM helped the city of Dubuque reduce water consumption by nearly 7% with additional savings in energy and treatment 23 Client Challenge The city of Dubuque, Iowa wanted to maximize its use of smart meters. They had a lot of data about water use but it was one-way information. What was needed was a way to share the usage data with citizens in a way that raised awareness about water, helped citizens track and manage the water they consumed and create a more sustainable city by reducing the water (and thus energy) footprint Benefits: Save water and money by empowering consumers with information, insights Raises awareness about water Social computing around water consumption. Help city/utility provide incentives to influence demand Proactive leak alerts to consumers Provides water utilities with a view of usage trends and patterns across customers Water Utilities can reduce costs and improve efficiency by using the system to improve water demand forecasting Especially useful in high water-stress areas We have also deployed this solution at Miami Dade Parks estimated ~$1M in savings / year City view

IBM s Intelligent Water suite is helping another utility recapture over $300K in 3 months by detecting faulty meters and potential theft Business Value Identify silted and/or defective meters and rapidly correct them - Meter Bypass/Theft. - Leakage, Non-working meters - Vacated Residences, Damaged Meters - AMR Signal Problems, Meter Degradation Meter Bypass Minimize revenue loss from accounts Crews have a targeted list of metered accounts to check saving time and cost - Client Challenge The client like most utility providers was losing revenue through under-reporting of consumption due to faulty meters or meter tampering. They were also unable to identify which meters are a maintenance priority, and are forced to rely on costly, inefficient methods of inspection scheduling. Identifying meters most likely to be defective or tampered with can save utilities significant time and expense on maintenance and recapture revenue. 24

IBM s Flood Management analytics is helping Rio De Janeiro predict and manage potential flooding and landslide events Client Challenge The city of Rio De Janeiro is prone to heavy rainfall and landslides that cause extensive damage to life and property every year. The client was looking for an integrated solution that helped predict weather and potential flooding/landslide events and coordinate actions across multiple agencies such as Public Safety, Water department and Transportation. This capability becomes vital as the city gears up for the Soccer World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016 Business Value Use weather information combined with local elevations to provide early warning of disaster scenarios. Detailed, customized flood forecasting data and visualization enables better flood prediction and operational response. Integration with IOW delivers highly localized flood forecasting and alert capability for city / government operations. 25

Back Up

Combined Sewer Overflow What is the client problem? Older cities have Combined Sewers which are essentially large pipes that carry both waste water from water customers as well as rain water. These sewers are often close to or beyond their useful life and during high rainfall there is an increased chance that the untreated water and sewage in the combined sewer overflows into local rivers and lakes, with public health implications. These overflows result in fines from regulators, hazards to public health, potential backup of sewers in low lying basement areas and lowered customer satisfaction with the utility. How does IBM uniquely solve it? IBM uses instrumentation data on water flow and water levels in the sewers to monitor the level of water in the sewer. Increases in water level could likely mean blockages in the combined sewer and the utility can quickly respond proactively to investigate and correct the situation. If instrumentation does not exists, IBM s partners can help. What is the benefit? Avoided CSO events lead to Lowered risk of adverse public health event and fines from regulators. Higher citizen satisfaction Intelligent CSO solution helps reduce - or even avoid, large capital investment in building new infrastructure to address CSO events. Where have we done this before? South Bend

Smarter Irrigation & Smarter Golf Courses What is the client problem? Farms and Golf courses use huge amounts of water. They also spend large amounts of energy to pump the water to different areas. This is increasingly costly as water and energy rates increase. Many parts of the U.S. and the world are severely water stressed and can ill afford inefficient water use. Cities/utilities that supply golf courses also have a vested interest in conservation because every drop saved from the golf course can be used for other purposes How does IBM uniquely solve it? Using a combination of advanced instruments that measure temperature moisture and salinity under the ground and IBM s smarter irrigation solution, it is possible to more precisely control irrigation of the course and save water / energy What is the benefit? At least 10%-15% Savings from reduction in use of water. Savings in water translate directly to savings in energy (pumping costs). Lower water footprint helps builds credibility around the brand s sustainability (i.e. the organization can credibly claim to have lowered water and energy consumption) Where have we done this before? Desert Mountain

Water Conservation and Smarter Metering What is the client problem? Many part of the world (such as most of the U.S. this summer) are under severe water stress and water conservation is on everyone s mind and at the top of city leaders agendas. Other cities are keen on positioning themselves as sustainable and lowering their water footprint. How does IBM uniquely solve it? IBM uses data from metering systems and analyzes it for trends, patterns. Usage information is communicated back to end users via a portal. Users are able to track their daily/weekly/monthly usage, set usage alerts / limits, view their consumption vis-à-vis that of their peers, share tips and get leak alerts from the utility. This consumption information and social interaction is a powerful catalyst in shaping overall demand What is the benefit? Information sharing and societal participation has a real impact on peoples behavior it catalyzes water conservation, raises awareness in users minds and drives sustainable practices. Water utilities have more influence over influencing water consumption and a more accurate forecast of water demand. Dubuque saw a 6.6% drop in overall demand. Miami Dade Parks expects to save $2m over 5 years through more efficient water management Where have we done this before? Miami Dade Parks, Dubuque

Galway Bay, Ireland Early inspiration for IOW and case study in using its capabilities for Coastal Management Sensor network monitors 30+ dimensions of water quality in Galway Bay Data is streamed & processed in real time Integration with other data feeds (weather, shipping etc) Innovative user interface and advanced visualization supporting multidisciplinary users Benefits: Collaboration platform for multiple stakeholders (coastguard, shipping, fishfarming, tourism, agriculture, etc) Enables rapid response to water quality events etc Enables system-wide response to climate change, economic development etc Helping to identify sustainable business models

Water quality monitoring: Hudson River. Early inspiration for IOW and case study in leveraging capabilities for water quality management

Creek Watch: Innovation that allows residents to provide key inputs on water resources to drive more informed decision-making Exploration of using mobile devices (camera smart phones) to capture data: Participatory data gathering with many users Data provides new opportunities for analysis Collect simple environmental data about waterways Capture citizen science data / photos Location (GPS) and time - stamped Water level, water flow, trash IBM Research developed app in consultation with the California Water Board and volunteer watershed groups

Details of a deployment for Wastewater: South Bend Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Portal (Operator view) Geo-spatial map of service area, showing selected infrastructure elements Instant messaging for Collaboration Events and alerts based on policies and thresholds defined by users for devices and systems. This includes manually generated operational broadcasts Measurement of selected infrastructure elements Historical measurements graph Details about the status and critical readings of the infrastructure assets
