Bioenergy Conference, Athenry, June 2008 Wood heating delivering benefits for the Hotel sector in Ireland
Contents: Brief introduction to Clearpower The rationale for wood chip or pellet heating in a hotel Selected case studies up and running in Ireland Summary -2-
Clearpower is a leading bioenergy company with three linked divisions 1. Energy Wood heating and CHP installations in 100KW 13MW range Over 35 MW now installed across 48 sites in Ireland Deliver chip and pellets from 6 fuel depots nationwide Deliver stable, long term ESCo solutions with 24/7 support 2. Water Recycle over 60,000 tonnes of sludge pa as fertiliser for crops Design, build, finance and operate systems for secure water and waste water treatment. 3. Waste to Energy Design, build, operate and finance anaerobic digestion plants producing biogas from organic waste materials Burn gas in onsite engine to produce heat and power -3-
Contents: Brief introduction to Clearpower The rationale for wood chip or pellet heating in a hotel Selected hotel case studies up and running in Ireland Summary -4-
There are a number of compelling reasons for heating a hotel on wood Cost reduction Running cost approximately half that of fossil fuels Up to 30% SEI grant available Payback on capital expenditure can be achieved quickly given the year round demand Reduced exposure to future carbon charges Price stability and security of supply Clearer guarantees on supply from local forests Heavy Irish forestation programme over past 60 years = good supply Stable price versus rapid fluctuations in fossil fuel prices on global markets Modern, automated, efficient technology Highly automated, well proven, fuel conversion efficiency at 90% Improved planning prospects and marketability Councils increasingly looking for sustainable energy in new developments 100% reduction in CO2 emissions using carbon neutral fuel Good PR -5-

Contents: Brief introduction to Clearpower The rationale for wood chip or pellet heating in a hotel Selected hotel case studies up and running in Ireland Summary -22-
Summary Technology is well proven, we are benefiting from not having to reinvent the wheel Processed wood fuel can be delivered in at less than half the price of oil or LPG, and fuel suppliers steadily improving quality control and delivery High, steady, year round hot water load of a hotel helps drive a quicker payback on the more expensive wood boiler equipment We have plenty of wood coming through from all the forestry activity over the past 60 years ESCo model is emerging Clearpower clients that have chosen wood versus oil or LPG are reducing costs, reducing CO2 emissions, securing energy supplies and supporting rural development. Thankyou for your time. -23-
