Meet the RUS Representatives Turn in comment sheet or provide to RUS within 30 days to Lauren lauren.cusick@wdc.usda.gov or: Rural Utilities Service Nemadji Trail Energy Center Attn: Steve Thornhill 9400 Ward Parkway Kansas City, MO 64141
Nemadji Trail Energy Center REGULATORY PROCESS We Are Here PUBLIC WORKSHOP A public workshop is an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions about the project. DRAFT ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT A draft environmental assessment (EA) reviews the potential effects a project might have on human and natural resources. PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD After the draft EA is published, the public is allowed to comment on if the EA appropriately analyzed potential effects. FINAL ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT The Rural Utilities Service (RUS) will review and consider all comments received on the EA and modify the document before publishing a Final EA. RUS will either make a decision that they can sign a Finding of No Significant Impact or proceed with an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
PRELIMINARY RESOURCE LIST In the Environmental Assessment (EA) the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) will evaluate the project s potential effects on environmental resources, such as: Geology & Soils Wetlands Land Use Vegetation Surface & Ground Water Transportation Wildlife Floodplains Socioeconomics Special Status Species Water Resources Environmental Justice Cultural & Historic Resources Farmland Air Quality Visual Resources Health & Safety Noise
PURPOSE AND NEED Enable renewable energy Replace recently retired generation facilities Add new generating Ensure reliability and Nemadji Trail Energy Center capacity to the current resource mix resource adequacy during unforeseen events Support customer load Secure capacity and energy resources
COMBINED-CYCLE NATURAL GAS PLANT The Nemadji Trail Energy Center will generate megawatts. 1 megawatt powers ~1,000 homes. This facility captures waste heat to create steam that spins a second turbine. Natural Gas Fuel Supply Natural gas is burned to Steam Turbine Generators produce high-pressure, hightemperature gas that spins a turbine. Gas Turbine Energy from the turbines flows Transformer to a transformer and continues through the electric grid to power homes and businesses.
SHOVEL-READY PROJECT SITE The proposed project is located in an industrial area and has access to existing electrical and natural gas infrastructure. The project will require these additional components: Approximately seven-mile natural gas pipeline using existing right-of-way Approximately four-mile, 345kV transmission line parallel to existing right-of-way Approximately 10-acre substation associated with the transmission line
