1 Power Trend User Guide GETTING STARTED 1. Click on the following link to the PowerTrend home page or Copy/Paste it into your browser Address Locator Log on using the User Name and Password provided to you by the PUD. 3. Click on Customer Profile link at top of page. 4. After the following pop up window displays, click on the Open button. USING POWERTREND An Excel workbook will open, displaying Energy Used information (i.e., kwh and Charges) in tabular and graphical formats for your organization. There are multiple reports which can be accessed via the tabs located at the bottom of worksheet, including reports for: 27 June 2012 Page 1

2 Energy Used/Energy Charges Measured Demand/Billed Demand/Demand Charges Power Factor/ Power Factor Charges kvarh/power Factor Charges Water Used/Water Charges Weather Information - Heating Degree Days/Cooling Degree Days Energy Star Portfolio Manager Each report is divided into energy and charge data, displayed in both table and line chart formats, for each building in the portfolio. If your company has multiple accounts and meters, you will need to scroll down the worksheet to view the information for all buildings. Definitions and other information pertaining to the various reports can be found in the Terminology section. Please note that not all reports will contain data for your organization. For example, if you don t have a demand meter and are not billed for kw, the report will be absent of energy and charge information. 27 June 2012 Page 2

3 You will notice PowerTrend data is NOT arranged in any particular order. It is sequenced by a unique numeric value that is generated behind the scenes. This number is not visible to the user therefore; if you have more than a few accounts it is recommended that you use the Find and Replace function to locate data for a specific facility. To display energy and charge data for a specific account or meter, select the Ctrl and the F keys simultaneously and the Find and Replace box will appear. Type in the desired account, meter or address and click the Find All button. If searching on an address, it is suggested that you type the complete address (e.g., 100 Street Address) to narrow the search. If you only use the house address 100, it will look for all values that include the number 100. TERMINOLOGY This section describes the various abbreviations and terms that are referenced throughout the PowerTrend tool. 4 Demand, Billed Demand Charges Demand, Measured Demand Meter Energy Charges Energy Star Portfolio Manager Energy Used Energy Use Index Heating/Cooling Degree Days The measured demand (kw) adjusted for billing purposes within a billing period. (The Billing Demand Charge as shown on the PUD Utility Billing invoice equals the Billed Demand multiplied by the charge per kw). The formula for calculating Billed Demand is: [1 + (0.97 PF)] x Measured Demand The charges based on demand (kw) consumed by all meters in a Service Provision. A low power factor penalty adjustment is included in this amount when applicable. Customers are not charged for the first 100kW used. The highest 15-minute average demand (kw) used during a billing period. (Same as the Billing Demand shown on the PUD Utility Billing invoice). Meter used for tracking a customer s kw usage (i.e., Schedule 20 customers). Some demand meters are also used to track kvar. The charges based on energy (kwh) consumed during a billing period. The Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) interactive energy management tool that allows users to track and assess energy and water consumption of their buildings. The PowerTrend report provides users with relevant data points arranged for multiple accounts, as required by the Energy Star Portfolio Manager tool. The number of kwh used during a billing period (vis-à-vis usage or consumption). For large power users this is calculated as the difference between the current and previous readings multiplied by the meter multiplier. Calculated from annual kwh consumed (energy used) divided by total square footage of the conditioned space where the energy is used. Units are kwh/sqft per year. A quantitative index used to reflect demand for energy to heat or cool houses and businesses. This index is derived from daily temperature data recorded at the Halls Lake switching station. The heating year, during which heating degree days are accumulated, extends from July 1 st to June 30 th. And the cooling year, during which cooling degree data are accumulated, extends from January 1 st to December 31 st. 27 June 2012 Page 4

5 Kilowatt Kilowatt hour Kilovar hour Power Factor Power Factor Charge Water Meter A mean daily temperature (average of daily maximum and minimum temperatures) of 65 F is the base for both heating and cooling degree day computations. Heating degree days are summations of negative differences between the mean daily temperature and the 65 F base; cooling degree days are summations of positive differences from the same base. For example, cooling degree days for a station with daily mean temperatures over a seven-day period of 65,67,70,74,78,65 and 71, are 0,2,5,9,13,0,and 6, for a weekly total of 35 cooling degree days. A unit of electrical power equal to one thousand watts. The basic unit of electrical energy which equals one kilowatt used for one hour. The basic unit of reactive energy which equals one kilovar used for one hour. This measurement and kwh are used in the calculation of power factor. Applicable to demand charge provision schedule users only (i.e., Schedule 82). It is used to adjust demand (kw) and stored as a percentage (PF%) number (not a decimal). The formula for determining average power factor is: PF = KWH (KWH) 2 (KVARH) 2 An adjustment to the demand charge if the customer s power factor is less than The power factor revenue amount is computed as the difference between required and actual power factor times the demand charge, rounded to 100 ths.
