2 Because water comprises up to 99 % of most mobile phases, the purity of reagent water is critical to the success of mutation detection by DHPLC (Denaturing High Performance Liquid Chromatography). 4 Pure stren Innovative technologies and systems Ultrapure water Laboratory-grade water Millipore was the first to integrate reverse osmosis into its water purification systems in The high recovery reverse osmosis (RO) loop found in RiOs systems saves up to 50 % of water consumption by recycling part of the reject water. Efficient and environmentally friendly, RiOs systems remove up to 95 % of all contaminants. 30 years ago Millipore introduced the first ultrapure water polisher - the Milli-Q system. The benchmark for ultrapure water production, Milli-Q systems have consistently defined the standards for quality, reliability and reproducibility. Developed in 1999, to support trace element analysis techniques such as ICP-MS, the Milli-Q Element system permits detection limits to sub-ppt and ppq levels. Analytical-grade water In 1996 Millipore introduced its patented Elix technology in a line of new water purification systems. This advanced form of electrodeionization provides an efficient method for removal of ionic contaminants from water. Producing consistently-pure analytical-grade water, Elix systems use up to 500 times less electricity than conventional distillation equipment. 185/254 nm UV Lamp UV photo-oxidation Millipore incorporated a dual-wavelength UV lamp into our water purification systems in UV photo-oxidation at 185 nm for ultra-low levels of organics and UV light at 254 nm for the destruction of bacteria. 6 A combination of technologies to effectively remove all major contaminants Pure techno Reverse Osmosis Reverse Osmosis (RO) efficiently removes up to 99 % of organics, particles and micro-organisms and approximately 95 % of ionic contaminants. The RO membrane separates a concentrated solution (containing the contaminants) from a dilute solution (purified water). A hydraulic pressure is applied to the concentrated solution forcing water across the semi-permeable membrane, leaving the contaminants behind. Reverse osmosis provides an effective pretreatment before electrodeionization and/or final polishing. Pretreatment Pretreatment packs, tailored to your feedwater source, combine several purification steps - polyphosphates prevent scaling, activated carbon removes chlorine and organics, and depth filters remove particulates. In order to advise you on the best pretreatment and system for your needs, Millipore Application Specialists are on hand to perform on-site testing of your feedwater quality. Water storage To avoid recontamination specially designed storage reservoirs ensure that your pure water will be held in optimum conditions. The optional Automatic Sanitization Module (ASM) effectively prevents bacterial growth. Additional purification steps are included in certain systems such as ultraviolet photo-oxidation at 185/254 nm (Milli-Q Gradient and Synthesis) to reduce organics to < 5 ppb and a 5000 Da cut-off ultrafilter (Milli-Q Biocel and Synthesis) for removal of nucleases and pyrogens.
