1 A GREENER VACATION An Environmental Checklist for Resort Operations on the Inyo National Forest Green and Getting Greener!
2 This list was compiled to help resort owners learn about ways to reduce their impact on the environment. Along with important environmental questions are online links to information about how resorts can make changes, find materials and purchase products that reduce their environmental footprint. Although not required by resorts, this voluntary summary of practical improvements encourages resorts to adopt cost-saving green practices that reduce waste and conserve natural resources. As a conservation agency, the Forest Service recognizes the importance of providing environmentally sustainable recreation opportunities and strongly encourages your business to design your operations with these green practices in mind. Reduction in energy consumption not only lessens the impacts to the environment, it also increases performance, improves the bottom line, and can be used as an effective marketing tool. A study conducted by the Travel Industry Association of America reports that nearly three quarters of all travelers claim it is important to them that their visits not damage the environment. In addition, one in every three travelers say they are influenced by the actions travel companies take to protect the environment and/or sustain local culture.
