5 Existing partnerships between India and France 5 A more stable and secure legal framework FDI now allowed in most industrial fields with some limitations (defense : 26% for instance) IP Rights in line with WTO requirements Some existing industrial partnerships between India and France Automotive sector : Renault-Mahindra for the manufacturing of the Logan (success based on the combination of talents : design, quality, production organisation by Renault, local expertise, frugality of Indian engineers and good distribution network by Mahindra) Defense : DCNS Mazagon Dock for the construction of 6 Scorpène submarines for the Indian Navy : Most ambitious contract in the world in this field Transfert Of Technology Contract Construction of all units in India, the first 2 under DCNS supervision and responsibility 3 product lists for the procurement with a strong indigenization will French SMEs can also succeed : Socomec (electrical equipments) A long history of cooperation in the nuclear field Agreement on scientific and technological cooperation since 1978 / 1989 Joint dialogue on safety issues since 1999 Coordination committee on nuclear energy since 2002

6 India in ITER Project Plasma research a high priority since the 1980s with the creation of the Institute for Plasma Research (Ahmedabad) Tokamak Aditya since 1989 Tokamak SST-1 under construction and test SST-2 already planned for 2022 and maybe DEMO later India joins ITER end 2005 With the support of France This will complement the current fission thorium-based indigenous R&D programme ITER India Domestic Agency formally launched by the Govt and under implementation Hosted at Ahmedabad in IPR (new labs and offices under development) 25 Billion Rupees multi-year budget approved Staff under recruitment : 50 from IPR and 150 from other fields 9 Packages Procurement Managers already working on the «in kind» procurement of ITER India 6
