6 Overview Thinlays as a preservation treatment Pavement preservation defined a program employing a network level, long-term strategy that enhances pavement performance by using an integrated, costeffective set of practices that extend pavement life, improve safety and meet motorist expectations." Source: FHWA Pavement Preservation Expert Task Group [2005 FHWA memo] Preservation consists of work that is planned and performed to improve or sustain the conditionof the transportation facility in a state of good repair. Preservation activities generally do not add capacity or structural value, but do restore the overall condition of the transportation facility. [FHWA, 2016] 6
