GREEN Charter Middle ENERGIZES Elementary Education Advisor: Jodi Isaacs Goal: GREEN Charter Middle School students will support Energy Education by working with all GREEN elementary students in grades K-5 in order to promote Energy Education in GREEN s Elementary School during the school year. Activities: Let s Debate Renewable and Nonrenewable Resources Potential and Kinetic Energy via a Pendulum Light Energy Open your Eyes and Be Resource Wise Middle School Students are Teachers: Energy Sources Middle School Students Hosting an Energy Carnival for 500 K-5 students on May 6, 2016

6th Grade Energy Debates GREEN Charter's 6th graders explored Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy sources in order to have a debate in front of an elementary audience. The students utilized the NEED Infobooks and online resources in order to discuss their energy source. The debate consisted of an introduction on the source, 2 questions from the moderator, and a wrap-up. The students discussed where their source is found, how we use it, the cost-effectiveness, benefits and most importantly why their source is more beneficial than the opposing source. The students quickly realized that these sources could be debated all day and that there is no one source that stands out as the best for the economy, environment, and people

Middle School Students Teaching Energy Transformations The students taught energy transformations of Potential to Kinetic Energy back to Potential. The 1st graders utilized a Vex Pendulum that the students constructed in order to demonstrate kinetic and potential energy.

Lights Camera Action Elementary students learn about Light Energy Through inquiry based activities the students have come to understand that light makes all things visible, light moves in a straight line, and shadows are caused by blocked light.

Open your Eyes and Be Resource Wise The National Theater from Washington DC put on a production sponsored by Duke Energy for GREEN's elementary school students. The play was titled "Space Station Conservation" and it explained to our students the benefits of utilizing different energy sources. The actors taught the students a fun chant, "Open your Eyes and Be Resource Wise " They also nominated students to be Energy Experts and called them Space Captains. It was an excellent production on Energy

Middle School Students Visit every Elementary Classroom and Teach Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy Sources GREEN Middle students visited every elementary classroom in order to teach the students about Renewable and Nonrenewable Resources. Each middle school presenter created their own presentation. These presentations included images, videos and lots of information about the available energy sources on Earth.

Middle School Students Prepare for the Energy Carnival Middle School students spent 2 weeks preparing for the Energy Carnival. They designed their own games and utilized NEED s Carnival Resources. The students also invited Greenville Water to host an event at the carnival. GREEN s entire elementary school is attending the carnival, 500 students!

GREEN Charter Middle Hosting an Energy Carnival for GREEN s K-5 Elementary School The Energy Carnival will be held in the courtyard on May 6, Elementary Students are going to visit the middle school student created Energy events. The events focus on Renewable and Nonrenewable Energy Sources. We will have over 500 students learning about Energy on May 6, 2016! Carnival Events: Energy Bingo Energy Math Energy Pictionary Energy Knockdown Top Three Snap Circuits Carnival Events: Energy Source Match Defend Your Drain Toss Your Trash 4H Rockets Solar Bracelets Solar Cars Paper...a Renewable Resource
