1 Roles of FFA Officers & Leadership Team Expectations of all Officers and Managers Treat all officers, members, advisors, faculty, administrators, parents, community members, and volunteers with the courtesy and respect that they would wish to be treated with themselves. Attend all required events or make up their absence outside of the scheduled time while notifying the president and advisors in advance. Attend and conduct the following events: Banquet, all chapter meetings, Fruit Sale, FFA Week, Consignment Auction, Fair Food Booth. Fulfill all obligations specific to their post and listed in these expectations, or resign so that a replacement can be found to fulfill their intended role. Set an example for attendance and involvement that, if followed by other members, improves the involvement and attendance of the chapter as a whole. Set an example for care and commitment to the chapter that, if followed by other members, improves the care and commitment of the membership as a whole to the chapter. Enroll in an agricultural course for at least one semester of the year in office. Encouraged to complete an SAE and submit a proficiency application each year. Grow in character, mature as a person, and develop skills on a personal and professional level through regular involvement with FFA activities so as to become an effective leader and responsible adult. Working knowledge of Parliamentary Procedure. Ability to memorize Opening Ceremony. As a group, determine the direction in which the chapter goes each year through goals, objectives, and themes. The direction in which the chapter moves (for better or worse) is usually because of the direct input and guidance of the officer team through the setting of accomplishable and measurable goals and objectives. President Ensure that all tasks that need to be completed are done by the people who are responsible. It is not the role of the president to do the job of everyone else but to determine the jobs that need to be done in order to move in the intended direction. Meet with the advisors to ensure that all activities are in the best interests of the members of the chapter and that all required obligations and expectations are met. Preside over meetings using National FFA standards for meetings (Parliamentary Procedure, Opening Ceremonies). Represent chapter at official functions and public relations. Coordinate activities and evaluates progress of the chapter, based on POA Appoint committees and serves on each committee Prepare and post agendas, with secretary.

2 Vice President Assume all duties of the President if necessary. Ensure that all officers are at all mandatory events and track the attendance of officers throughout the year. Contact all officers prior to events to ensure that they are attending. If officers are not meeting the expectations of their position, the VP will bring this to the attention of the President and advisors. Work closely with President and advisors to assess progress toward meeting chapter goals. Develop POA (Program of Activities). Coordinate all committees. Secretary Take minutes of all meetings and save them to a computer file accessible by the advisors (or them directly to the advisors) Take attendance at all meetings and record this in a digital file accessible by the advisors (or this file directly to them). Seek needed information from the minutes of previous meetings at the request of other officers or the advisors Present minutes at each chapter meeting for approval and then file the minutes in the Secretary s binder. Write correspondence on behalf of the chapter. If unable to attend a meeting, personally find an alternate to take minutes. Work with the President to prepare and post meeting agendas. Treasurer Record all payment and create receipts for all received money, ensuring that all payees receive a receipt. Oversee all money collected and record this in a computerized file accessible by the advisors (or directly the files to the advisors). Responsible for financial part of all fundraisers and ensures that they are conducted in an organized fashion. Serve as Co-Chair of any fundraiser, including fruit sale. Promptly alert the President and advisors of any missed payments by any individuals. Prepare and present monthly treasurer s report at each meeting.

3 Sentinel Set up the room prior to each meeting. Return the room to its original state after a meeting. Reserve rooms for meetings through the school or other applicable group. Ensure that all chapter meeting materials (e.g. flags, gavel, programs, etc.) are presentable and available when needed. Keep the meeting area orderly and clean at all times. Post announcements of all meetings and major events at least a week prior to that event. Prepare and serve refreshments at each monthly meeting. Welcome guests and visitors. Assist President in maintaining order during meetings. Reporter Write and distribute a chapter newsletter with a calendar of events on a monthly basis. Post announcements of all meetings and major events at least a week prior to that event. Maintain a chapter website with news and information. Maintain a Facebook page with news and information. Text, , and/or call all members prior to important events and deadlines. Historian Photograph every major event of the FFA and submit an organized scrapbook of these photos prior to the banquet. Maintain and regularly update the chapter display case. Field Managers Ensure that a crop with profit potential is planted, maintained, and harvested each year. Find and support volunteers to care for the field. Work with local professionals to ensure the crop is as productive and profitable as possible. Determine when and where planting, spraying, harvesting, storing, and selling will occur. Notify members so they have the opportunity to be involved. Set up educational opportunities for chapter members, related to crop production. Submit a final report detailing all income and expenses in a timely manner after harvest. Managers (1-2 members) will earn (or split) 5% of the profit as compensation.

4 Greenhouse managers Ensure that a profitable greenhouse crop is planted, maintained, and sold each year. Find and support volunteers to care for the plants. Work with professionals to ensure the plants that are maintained are as productive and profitable as possible. Determine when planting, spraying, harvesting, storing, and selling will occur. Submit a final report detailing all income and expenses in a timely manner. Clean and maintain the greenhouse on at least a weekly basis. Managers (1-2 students) will split 5% of plant sale (poinsettia or other) profit. Fruit Sale Managers Elected in Fall. Share all related communications and active records with advisors throughout sale. Contact Mintex in Fall for prices. Arrange printing of Triple Carbon Forms. Promote fundraiser to alumni, grade schools, high school staff, and community. Work with treasurer to account for all money. Create seller forms and enter completed forms into computer. Communicate with advisors and students about extra fruit the day after fruit delivery. Create and submit final report of entire sale within 2 weeks of payment deadline. Managers (2 members) will split 5% of the profits from fruit sales (excluding plants). Animal Managers Care for all animals, or arrange care in case of absence. Supply food, bedding and other essentials for animals. (Buy and request reimbursement.) Work with advisor to ensure all permits and licenses are up to date. Managers (1-2 members) will split 5% of any animal-related profit.
