1 Bhagavatula Charitable Trust (BCT) National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme) Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Brief Report on Placement events Background: Bhagavatula Charitable Trust (BCT) has been working in rural Visakhapatnam for past 40 years in the areas of women's self-help groups (precursor to the DWACRA and SHG), rural banking, wasteland development, development of literacy primers for literacy training program, training youth in skill development programs and so on.bct is partnering with Ministry of MSME, Government of India, New Delhi and National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium enterprises, Hyderabad to provide Skill Development Trainings in Visakhapatnam- district. National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (NI-MSME), Hyderabad is apex organization of Ministry of MSME. The organization has single minded objective of sharpening the human resource skills of youth. In India, MSMEs play a pivotal role in the overall industrial economy of the country. The Ministry of MSME is committed to training of youth to be employable. The main objectives of the scheme is development of indigenous entrepreneurship from all walks of life for developing new micro and small enterprises, enlarging the entrepreneurial base and encouraging self-employment in rural as well as urban areas, by providing training to first generation entrepreneurs and assisting them in setting up of enterprises. Partnership with Ni-msme: BCT over the past 40 years has trained over 40,000 people across the spectrum on various but appropriate skills.since 2009 BCT, has been partnering with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India and National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Hyderabad for providing skill development programs in rural and tribal areas of Visakhapatnam district. In the past six years, BCT has trained 2342 youth and women through conducting 82 training s. We have organized training s in various disciplines which include Biotechnology, Computer Hardware and Networking, Dairy Farming, Desktop Publishing, Electrical Gadget Repairs, Embroidery, Fashion Designing, Fitter Maintenance General, Gardening, Mobile Repairing, MS. Office and Internet and Women Entrepreneurship Development. The overall success rate is 70% of which self-employed are 57% and wage employed are 23%. About the Job Melas conducted during the year : We have conducted 3 Job melas during the year , got good response from the general public, in particular from unemployed youth and companies. About 1120 youth members have took part in the event, 7 companies and 3 bankers have took part apart from representation from DRDA placement cell. Of which 211 candidates got short listed for further process and we do not have the exact data of number of persons joined for various reasons such as companies not giving the data in writing, Dr. Reddy Labs confined in taking 10+2 studying / pass outs as trainees hence no immediate joining s take place, youth don t want to migrate to far of places etc., Even though large numbers of youth have attended Job Melas, very few of them have joined the jobs, moreover about 85% of them are not trained under our purview. Therefore based on the past learning s we confined to focus on our trainees for placement.
2 For the year : We have received 14 programs, 3 trainings to conduct in rural areas and 11 in Tribal area against the proposed 31 trainings (18 programs in rural and 13 in tribal). We have successfully completed all the 14 programs execution by November The executed training programs details in tribal areas include one training in Computer Hardware and Networking, two Desktop Publishing, two Fashion Designing, one Mobile Repairing, two MS Office and Internet, and three trainings in Women EDP. In rural areas we have organized trainings in Biotechnology, Electrical Gadget repair and in Desktop Publishing. During the year through 14 trainings trained 400 members of which 46.5% are female and 77.5% are Tribal. Status of trainings Executed trainings in the year : Sl. No. Name of the Module # oftrgs. # of trainees Female Male SC ST OBC Gen 1 Biotechnology Computer Hardware and Networking Desktop Publishing Electrical Gadget Repair Fashion Designing Mobile Repairing MS Office and Internet Women EDP Total Placement events during the year : Based on the past experience instead of Job Melas we have conducted Placement events to target the trained candidates, mainly to promote wage employment.from the last two years BCT is training youth from urban slums of Visakhapatnam and has established a placement cell headed by Mobilization and Placement Officer. For the trained candidate s placements, in the beginning year we used to meet various institutes and send the candidates. Seeing the performance of the trainees the institutes, started coming to our center and are recruiting. Overall the success rate is 74%. These services are being extended to recruit ni-msme trainees. We have organized placement events in the following five central places, where the trainings were took place. 1. K.D.Peta 2. Chintapalli 3. Araku 4. Paderu 5. Kovelapalem In the conducted Placement events we have given the details of job matrix, approximate emoluments, working hours, about stay & food arrangements, customizing to new environments and importance of sticking on the job for a minimal period. With all these only 8% of the trainees have approached for placement and final placement of candidate is in the process. Deliberations took place on deriving financial support from banks and in availing government subsidy. In these events 90% of the trained candidates have participated. We have tried and involved local officers, people s representatives to establish a platform which support trainees in availing the government services. For ready reference hereunder giving a schedule of one event conduced in Paderu.

4 The major factor that supporting for wage employment in rural trainings is that Special Economic Zone through which the skilled persons are getting opportunities to work like wise providing requisite tool kit is enabling the participants in starting their self-employment skill. In this year BCT has provided tool kits or relevant material to start the initiative immediately for the trainees of Computer Hardware and Networking, Electrical Gadget Repairs, Dairy based ESDP, Biotechnology and Mobile Repairing. We are facing great difficulty in motivating especially tribal youth to join in private jobs in and around Visakhapatnam. The main reason for not joining is that they have to shift to far off place where they find themselves as foreigners, working hours and emoluments in private jobs. Blessing in disguise is that many of them are able to get employment locally, particularly under NREGS. The other reasons associated needs to be find out.
