4 A. SITUATIONAL APPRAISAL Situational appraisal: Answers the question-where am I? Looks at your: Age Academic achievement Career achievements Family situations Social standing Financial commitment Health status Spiritual well being

5 B. IDENTIFY THE OPTIONS Identify the options: Answers the question-where do I want to go? Your needs(social, economic, health, spiritual) What the new situation is giving you. Groundwork that needs to be done. Who do you need to involve.

6 C. Choose the most efficient and effective strategy The most efficient and effective strategies are: Answer the question-how do I get there? Requires you to think of the following: Mental ability Physical status Available time and resources Sources of the resources Geographical constraints Financial constraints

7 Learning a new thing This step: Answers the question-how can I learn a new thing? Needs one to overcome the factors that hinder learning such as: Anger Fear of failure Worry

8 In order to learn you need to: Identify what you want to learn Understand why you need to learn State what is motivating you to learn. Have the confidence to learn Set specific goals Identify whom to share the knowledge with Develop something of the learning Be enthusiastic

9 Be ready to go full stages of learning Awareness Information seeking Trial stage Evaluation stage Decision making stage

10 E. MANAGING CHANGE The step answers the question: How can I manage change? Real change starts; By making decision change By being ready for unpleasant findings s you look inside Do SWOT analysis Take the change as a challenge Explore the unknown before venturing( take calculated risks) Learn from the mistakes

11 F. BEING ASSERTIVE Be assertive by: Differentiating assertiveness and aggression To be assertive use I statements Refuse to be deterred by obstacles

12 G. Be relaxed and kind to yourself A person can be relaxed and be kind to self by: Planning your time appropriately in terms of hours, days, weeks, months and years. Take retreat to find a quit time for yourself and your maker Live a balanced life- eat and sleep well, keep healthy, be sober minded. Respect your boundaries and teach others to do so

13 2. PERSONAL GROWTH Personal growth may involve: Venturing into business opportunities Job search Planning for finances

14 Business opportunities Venturing into business involves: Identifying business opportunities Generating business ideas Business planning

15 The process of business opportunity identification involves: Generating business ideas as many as possible Identify a broad area of interest in business Narrow your business choice to a specific business idea has chances to succeed

16 Ways to generate business ideas: Observe your environment and existing business Interview the local people about their needs and requirements Consult experts and professionals in the specific area of interest Attend shows and exhibitions. Utilize your own special skills or training or talents Do needs assessment of the lacking services and products

17 Evaluate the business idea After generating the business idea evaluate the ideas by asking yourself the following questions: Is there a market? Do you have the needed knowledge and skills? Do you have the resources? Can it satisfy your target income and profit? Is it legal or moral or ethical? Is it within your status? Are you ready to work with the type of people involved? Do you want to live the lifestyle?

18 Do the business planning: Write a business plan Start up the business Start small and aim to grow Marketing your services and product as in the bottom line Do not mix business with friendship Avoid copying big businesses Plan for your finances appropriately

19 3. Job Searching The Job search involves: Method used to look for the job Evaluation of job offer Decision to take or not to take the job Writing a resume of C.V Reporting for interviews

Personal financial planning It is vital to plan for personal finances in order to: Determine whether the available finances can cover the desired expenditures Analyze and prioritize the proposed expenditures Avoid spending on unnecessary items Provide information on surplus or deficits or action to be taken Determine where to source for the required finances Categorize expenditure Finances for immediate use Finances for future use and investment Consider safe custody of your finances Develop the best spending habits Spendthrift-to spend extravagantly Mean-spend cautiously Miser- little or no spending Exercise meanness (controlling spending)

21 Exercising meanness involves Sticking to the budget Avoiding impulsive or extravagant expenditures Avoid company that influence unnecessary spending Limit the amount of money to carry or donate Prioritizing your needs into must buy, Good to buy, nice to buy. Do not lend money Behave as if you are broke to keep away borrowers.
