They automate a lot of things that would otherwise take up valuable time, while still giving you the ability to expand and improve your recruiting (such as through savvy career sites that let job seekers apply online). 10 Measuring Your Success is Simpler When you re dealing with manual resumes or filling positions through chains, measuring the success of your recruiting efforts can be tricky. An ATS, however, already collects thousands of recruiting data points, which you can then report on and learn from. With an ATS, you can keep an eye on the recruiting metrics you care about most. Get real-time updates on things like time to fill and cost per hire, and break that down by department, job, or individual recruiter. Some of these questions can be knockout questions, to remove unqualified applicants. Your online application can also have assessments tests embedded right in, to ensure you only have to spend time on candidates that have what it takes. The better your first-stage screening, the more you can focus on the best candidates, and hire more efficiently. 13 Getting Started on Your Buyer s Journey 1 Pinpoint Your Problems Before vetting, think about what parts of your recruiting you want to improve. Use that to guide your conversations with ATS providers. This is a good time to think about budget, too. 2 Decide: Dedicated Suite or HRIS/ERP? Consider if you want an ATS that s in a dedicated talent acquisition software suite, or that s part of a larger HRIS or ERP solution. A dedicated software suite focuses exclusively on the recruiting lifecycle. An HRIS or ERP solution tackles other parts of HR, like payroll and performance management. Run Through Your Checklist of Specifics 3 Think about how the ATS stacks up in terms of ease of use, the candidate experience, job management, reporting capabilities, and customer service. Can I track the entire recruiting process from one screen? Will a job s workflow let me see the status of each candidate, and where they are in the process? Do I have access to a library of standard reports? 13

14 Getting Started on Your Buyer s Journey Assess Risks An ATS will hold some pretty important information in its system. How does the provider secure it? Get Customer References Ask to connect with the provider s current customers. Find out about their level of satisfaction with the company in a direct phone conversation. You might also want to ask for any customer case studies, too. Ask About Implementation How would the ATS get up and running? What will the provider do, and what leg work will you need to contribute? Tip: Ask if the ATS integrates with any other solutions, like those that specialize in assessments or reference checking. As you build out your recruiting solutions, you ll want to ensure they can all play nice together.
