3 VBE II: WP2 Status Report WP2 Data Transfer Technologies; Status Report, Objectives Crucial part of developing VBE technologies further is to move from IFC file exchange to shared data utilizing IFC model servers. Eurostep Oy has developed a standardized API (Application Program Interface) in the SABLE project, but the enduser interfaces, client applications, are still missing. VBE project will test and demonstrate the possibilities of this technology by developing some enduser application interfaces to SABLE API in collaboration with Eurostep Oy. One special element for the iroom and other visualization purposes is the development of a 3D component, which can be used in client applications using the specified visual interface to the data, Figure 1. Enduser application A Interface VBE II projects Enduser Enduser application application B C Interface Interface 3D component Collaboration projects Enduser application D Interface Enduser application E Interface Technical implementation support (Service from Eurostep Oy) Current SABLE API (Licenced from Eurostep Oy) Extensions (Eurostep Oy) IFC Model Server 1 IFC Model Server 2 IFC Model Server 3 Figure 1: Interface Development within the VBE II Project The development and testing of these applications is a significant part of the international network (WP5.2). In addition, Eurostep Oy is planning to extend the SABLE API in their own R&D project. WP2.1 Technology Review and VBE Platform Has started by defining the criteria based on which the existing technologies will be evaluated. The main goal has been set to capturing trends rather than software or solution specific details, although specific examples will be given for illustrating the identified trends. The major division of the evaluation is drawn between BIM and interorganizational BIM, where interorganizational BIM is chosen as the main focus. IFC based exchange and model servers fall into this category. Attached is detailed report Stateoftheart VBE applications and technologies. WP2 report
4 VBE II: WP2 Status Report WP2.2 Structuring and documentation of data transfer use cases Meetings, presentations and other work done The IFC Model View Definition (MVD) format developed in this work package was accepted as the official format of the IAI in the meetings in Munich by both ITM and IC. A new IAI role for a Model View Definition Coordinator was created. Until the end of 2006 Jiri Hietanen is the MVD coordinator with Sakari Lehtinen as the assistant. Work on creating content for the MVD Architectural design to structural design continued. Interest for this view was expressed from Portugal (Uninova) and Norway (Statsbygg) Work on creating the content for the MVD architectural design to quantity takeoff is starting. The German Speaking Chapter if the IAI has launched a related initiative that we should participate in. The results from the research and scientific viewpoint Theoretical foundation for view definitions and IFC certification. Paper delivered to the IAI as part of the official MVD format (IAI_IFCModelViewDefinitionFormat.pdf). Networking Companies / organizations Collaboration between IAI, BLIS, ProIT and IDM. 9 VBE II: WP3 Status Report WP3 Decision Support Technologies: Status Report, Objectives WP3 focuses in utilizing decision support technologies in RECC processes, and validating their benefits. One of the main technologies will be iroom; a multiscreen presentation technology enabling synchronization of presentation of data from multiple software applications, and thus providing multiple simultaneous views to the complex project data and helping project participants to understand and create a shared view of the problems and solutions. WP3.1 Design of technical solutions for decision support Meetings, presentations and other work done Discussions with companies involved have continued. reported in attached pilot case descriptions. (Senateproperties: University of Joensuu; Aurora II and Tampere university of technology; Administrative building). have been presented in the TWN seminar poster session at Senate on Hand outs of the results were provided and given during seminar. WP3.2 Companyspecific adaptations of decision support technologies Meetings, presentations and other work done The results from the research and scientific viewpoint Technical framework has been made. It describes the basis for utilization of models from different stakeholder s point of view. Report of JAO; FMtest case plan is attached: VBE2_WP3.3_jao. The results from the research and scientific viewpoint Not applicable for this subtask. WP3.4 Development of VBE decision support facilities and services, VTT/TTE Status Report, Articles in scientific journals, reports, thesis, dissertations, presentations Detailed report attached 3D viewing component The results from the research and scientific viewpoint The 3D visualization prototype component is now working. Due to the cooperation with 3DMaasto TEKES project the 3D component can read terrain and geographic information files. This allows the IFC models to be integrated into larger terrain models. We have found out that the triangulation provided by the EuroStep model server is not suitable for the needs of fluent 3D visualization, we have started to investigate the possibility to do the triangulation in the 3D component. However this is a major piece of work and may not fit into the scope of VBE II. 12 VBE II: WP4 Status Report WP4 Modelbased Real Estate and FM Business Processes Status report, , TTY Objectives The current VBE technologies are based on the IFC model specification. It has not been used in the real estate and facility management business processes in Finland. However, RE/FM use would be crucial to create market demand for the models from clients owning and operating the buildings. WP4 focuses in 1) capturing these processes and data needs for the models, 2) recognizing RE/FM business cases to demonstrate the possible benefits, and 3) possible needs for extensions of the current IFC specifications. Method to describe and concretize results and contents of work package has been finished. MS Power Point material has been represented to the leading group of the project. Focused data inventory of using building models as initial data of hiring of spaces and maintenance has been done. Accepted publication of results in international CIBW symposium. Preliminary version of final report (liitteenä alustava loppuraportti). Clientele The results from participating companies and their business To the operational and business environments of participants has been familiarized. The used programs and data content and functionality of them have been accented but also organization, personnel and job description of them has been touched. In theoretical level to the data models and data contents and structures of them has been examined. The different ways to share completeness of data processing of building maintenance has been tested. To the data integration data contents and input and output interfaces of different solutions has been gone through. Theoretic modeling method has been adjusted to practical solutions and organizations of participant companies. Data content of models has been followed up. The critical points of way of actions have been scanned. Budget, schedule and results compared to the project plan Realized expenses vs. project plan Realized expenses have followed the budget.
