1 Question 1. Mr. Raghu is the production manager and Mr. Shaghu is the sales manager of a company. Mr. Shaghu got a very big order of sale and to supply this order on time he asked Mr. Raghu to increase the production so that goods can be supplied on time. Mr. Raghu slowed down the production as he did not want Mr. Shaghu to get appreciation. Do you agree with Mr. Shaghu s decision? What values is he lacking? Explain. Answer 1. We do not agree with Mr. Raghu s decision. He is lacking value of co-ordination as it is the essence of Management. Co-ordination the essence of management Co-ordination brings unity of action and integrity different activities of the organization. Following are the reasons to call co-ordination as essence of management:- 1. Co-ordination is needed to perform all the functions:- In planning, co-ordination is required between main plan and support plans of different departments. In organizing between different resources of an organization and also between authority and responsibility. In staffing between skill of a person and the work given to him. In directing between superior and subordinate. In controlling between standards and actual performance. 2. Co-ordination is required at all the levels Top level management requires co-ordination to integrate all the activities of the organization. At the middle level to balance the activities of different departments so that these can work as a part of one organization. Lower level requires co-ordination to integrate the activities of workers towards achievement of organizational objectives. 3. Co-ordination is the most important function of an organization Any company which fails to coordinate its activities cannot survive and run successfully for a long period of time in this competitive world. Question 2.
2 Mr. rake is expert in getting the things done for others. Do you think he will be a successful manager. Answer 2. Management does not mean only one activity of getting the work done for others, rather it is complete process which involves the following functions: 1. Planning 2. Organizing 3. Staffing 4. Directing 5. Controlling Brief Explanation of Functions: Planning Planning means thinking in advance what is to be done when it is to be done, how it is to be done and by whom it should be done. In other words second objectives for a given time period, formulating various courses of actions to achieve them and then selecting the best possible alternative from the different courses of actions is called planning. Organizing It means identifying and grouping different activities in the organization and bringing together the physical, financial and human resources to establish most productive relations for the achievement of specific goals of the organization. According to Henry Fayol "To organize a business is to provide it with everything useful to its functioning like raw materials, machines and tools capital and personnel." Staffing Staffing consists of manpower planning, recruitment, selection, training, compensation, promotion and maintenance of managerial personnel. Staffing involves finding the right person for the right job, having the right qualification, doing the right job at the right time. Directing Directing functions of management is concerned with instructing, guiding, inspiring and motivating the employees in the organization. So that their efforts result in achievement of organizational goal. Controlling
3 Controlling means a comparison of actual performance with the planned performance. If there is any difference or deviation then you find out the reasons behind such differences and also taking corrective measures to stop them in future. Question 3. Pandu, manager of ABC Ltd believes employees in the organization must follow blindly the instructions of seniors and never encourage them to come out with suggestions and if they give good suggestions then also he never rewards them for the same. Do you justify the action of Pandu? What value is he lacking? Answer 3. We do not justify the actions of Pandu as it is correct that employees must follow the instructions of superiors, but at the same time, employees must be encouraged to give suggestions to keep their motivation high. Question 4. Mr. Raju the manager of LTD Ltd gave the order to supply the raw material for one of his relative whereas the same raw material is available at lower rates in the market. What value is lacking in Mr. Raju? Answer 4. Mr. Raju is giving priority to his personal interest, ignoring the interest of his organization. He is lacking the value of Subordination of individual interest to the general interest. Subordination of individual interest to general interest According to this principle the interest of the organization must be given performance than the interest of individuals or employees and the co-ordination between the interest of both should be done. If the objectives of individuals are in the same direction as of organization than there is no problem, but if the objectives of both the groups are in different directions than manager must try to reconcile individual interest with organizational goals and if it is not possible than individual goal must be sacrificed for achieving organizational goals. For Example: If individual objective is to earn more remuneration and the organization has the objective of cutting down the expenses due to financial crises, in this situation the individual must sacrifice his interest. Even employees will also suffer in the long run Question 5. Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal s efforts against corruption brought revolutionary change in the social environment as many people came out from home to join their movement against corruption. During their rally, the neighboring school declared holidays in school and many people reached offices late. Answer 5. The value present in the above para is: 1. Awareness among the common man about corruption. 2. Motivating youth to come forward and fight against corruption. The disturbing value here is: 1. The disturbance created in the neighboring area due to rally. 2. Closing of school is loss of education. Question 6. To implement the latest technology of production, which is ecofriendly and reduce the pollution level? The organization required Rs.1 Crore. To arrange this money, management planned to cut the money spent on charity for educational institutions and hospitals. What value is present in the above Para and what value is missing by the management? Answer 6. The value present in the above Para is: 1. Introduction of ecofriendly technique of production. 2. Reduction in pollution level. The value which is missing in the above Para is:
5 1. Ignoring social objectives of spending in charity. 2. Management cannot work with the single objective of profit maximization. It has to have multiple objectives. Question 7. In evaluating Business environment, ABC Ltd observed that there is a lot of opportunity to market to make some scientific machine for garbage throwing. So the company made a garbage throwing machine which could be attached to the main pipe of a house and dilute all waste in liquid form and further it could be thrown in a nearby canal and river. This saved the household from mosquitoes and smell which come from garbage. What value is present here and what value is missing? Answer 7. The value which is present here is: 1. Saving people from the stinking smell of garbage. 2. Reducing spread of mosquitoes and other diseases which can caused by mosquitoes. The value missing in this is spread of water pollution: the untreated waste which will flow to rivers and canals will pollute the environment. Question 8. Leather Corporation Ltd. Made beautiful and attractive leather bags using the skin of an animal. Whose hunting is banned. This increased their market share by 25% and management was very happy to achieve this target. Do you justify the decision of management? Answer 8. With this decision management can achieve their organizational objective of increase in market share, but the value which they ignored is: 1. Use of skin of banned animal. 2. It is an illegal activity. 3. The societal concept of marketing is ignored here. Question 9.
6 Children of rural and hilly area were able to earn a good amount by working in Bidi making and Crackers factories. This helped them to raise their standard of living, but government passes an Act to stop child labor as a result they lost their source of earning. What value is missing in this? Answer 9. The disturbing value in this para is: 1. Child labor is banned. 2. Working at Cracker-Making and Bidi-Making is hazardous to life of children. The government must provide free education to these children as they do not have any source of income. Question 10. Due to competition in the mobile market. He Trin Trin Ltd. Introduced a new mobile phone which has a battery back up for 30 days. In a hurry to introduce the product and get first mover advantage they did not test the battery for full 30 days. After the launch, the mobiles were sold immediately due to its feature of battery back up but after 15 days, the company started receiving the complaint of heated battery and two customers were injured due to battery blast. What value is missing in this para. Answer 10. The value which is missing in this para is: Violation of Right to Safety. The company did not test the battery for full time of 30 days and in a hurry they ignored the standardization marks also. Right to Safety According to this right the consumers have the right to be protected against the marketing of goods and services which are dangerous to life and property. This right is important for safe and secure life. Sometimes the manufacturing defects in the products like gas cylinders, pressure cookers and other electrical appliances may cause loss of life, health or property of the consumers.
The value which motivated him was giving experience to all the employees for different job positions but the value which lack here are the following.
