2 Botswana Chamber of Mines (BCM) is an organisation established under the country s Societies Registration Act to serve the interests of the mining and exploration companies together with associated industries in Botswana. MEMBERSHIP: Companies legally engaged in exploration and mining activities in Botswana. Objectives: 1. Provide a forum for discussion of all matters of common interest to the mining sector and to coordinate advocacy activities of mining industry. 2. Promote the interest of the mining industry in Botswana (liaison and lobbying with Government Departments and other organizations). 3. Promote the image of the mining industry in Botswana.
3 Botswana Chamber of Mines Business Development Forum has developed a five (5) year Strategic Plan, Business Development Policy & Procedures and Charters for the members. The Forum is now ready to implement its Business Development Initiative. The purpose of this presentation is to: Present an overview of the COMBDF Initiatives. Solicit involvement of various stakeholders in this noble initiative. Share the aspirations of the mining houses which led to the launch of this initiative.
4 Botswana Chamber of Mines (BCM) has set up under its wing, Business Development Forum (COMBDF) whose membership consists of the Procurement /Purchasing Managers at the different mining operations. The main focus of the Forum is to utilise the combined mining sector purchasing power to: Drive cost saving and efficiency improvement initiatives for the Chamber of Mines registered members. Make significant contribution towards Botswana s socio-economic development. - attract foreign suppliers to relocate their manufacturing activities into Botswana or to establish local trading presence in Botswana. - embrace the Citizen Economic Empowerment drive and provide support to capable citizens and citizen owned enterprises to grow and supply local and export markets.
5 Significant amount of money is spent by the mining industry on procuring goods and services from foreign suppliers. The purchasing power could be used to develop and diversify the local economy, attract FDI and facilitate Citizen Economic Empowerment Facilitate cost saving potential for the mining houses through volume discounted prices. COMBDF is keen to work with MTI, EDD,BITC, LEA, BOBS, Tokafala, BEMA, Innovation Hub, BDC,BECI,BOCCIM, CEDA, NDB and other relevant stakeholders to achieve full potential of this initiative.

10 1. To identify, support and facilitate the development of citizen owned companies and or joint venture businesses in Botswana. 2. To attract and assist capable foreign suppliers or investors in the mining sector to establish enterprises in Botswana. 3. Promote and facilitate procurement from local enterprises in order to increase the share of mining sector procurement spent on these entities. 4. To drive cost savings and efficiency improvement initiatives for registered members of the Botswana Chamber of Mines(BCM). 5. To develop and maintain the required co-operation and good working relations with other business development agencies and relevant government ministries and departments that will enable Chamber of Mines Business Development Forum to achieve its mandate.
