5 Programme 3 - Inventory Management Enabling - cost out / reduce variation Strategic objectives Program description Improve supply chain efficiency within trusts to reduce wastage and unnecessary consignment stock at trusts and drive savings Enable the final mile supply chain within the trust environment to drive benefits/visibility throughout the supply chain through better stock management and ordering decisions Support the uptake of NHS Supply Chain demand capture systems (edc) End-to-end processes, IT systems and visibility for acute and community sectors from supplier to final customer. Deploy supply chain consultancy services to the NHS, supporting change management Continue to deploy edc materials management into trusts to support insight of volume Deploy edc Gold (consignment stock management) into trusts to control high value product categories Develop change management capability to support trusts with implementation of supply chain improvement programs Develop improved information linkages from point of demand (trust end user) through to suppliers. 6 Customer quotes Time freed up for senior staff can (now) be spent on training and support for junior members of the team and means that they have more time available to be in theatres. The expiry report allows us to define when we need to contact suppliers to advise them that short dated items need to be exchanged. Ordering implants via edc Gold has been a great step forward, not only as it used to consume a great deal of time stock control and inventory levels can be policed more easily and proper rotation of stock is guaranteed. It has made a very positive change in the way theatre runs.

7 Commercial Contract Launch Project Process improvement review and improvement of the current commercial contract launch process Governance improved internal governance and ownership Metrics and reporting implementation of a new internal tracking tool Customer experience reviewing the positive/negative impact on customer on launched contracts. Communications a communications review is currently underway to optimise tools, channels and timing Training and education - development of company wide training plan.

8 Summary The NHS procurement community will evolve to meet the NHS financial and transformational challenge NHS Supply Chain must be focussed on the customer and how we change to support the changing demands upon us Our focus will be on greater communication of savings opportunities, driven by cost down, cost out, aggregation and supply chain solutions It is essential we work with suppliers to combine effort, develop improved clinical engagement and have a joined up offer to the NHS.
