We have built a strong reputation founded on the pillars of our education and training programmes and our learned society and I am proud to say we are truly a global leader in the professional development of ADR practitioners. Diverse and cross border disputes are not restricted by sector, region or culture. ADR practitioners therefore serve a diverse client base. They play a vital role in helping parties in dispute find a solution through cost-effective and efficient methods of resolution. In the last decade we have seen greater momentum in the use of ADR both in the UK and abroad. An increasingly connected global economy has in turn given rise to our growing worldwide presence, reflected in our membership and I look forward to welcoming you as a member soon. Who we are The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) is a leading professional membership organisation representing the interests of ADR practitioners worldwide. With more than 15,000 members located in over 133 countries, CIArb supports the global promotion, facilitation and development of all forms of private dispute resolution. Join as an Experienced Practitioner The EPR scheme provides experienced arbitrators, construction adjudicators and mediators with direct entry into CIArb membership at Fellow level. To qualify to become an Experienced Practitioner you will need to demonstrate: A knowledge of law of obligations and evidence at first degree level, or recognised equivalent, or an understanding of law relevant to your mediation practice, or recognised equivalent A minimum of 10 years experience in arbitration or construction adjudication, or mediation (in a lead/sole mediator capacity) including settlement agreements, the management of proceedings and attending hearings which have resulted in the publication of a reasoned award or decision Experience of writing directions and final, reasoned awards or decisions/experience of writing Mediation Agreements/ Heads of Agreements/ Memoranda of Understanding. Upgrade to Chartered Arbitrator If you became a Fellow of CIArb through the arbitration route, you can apply to an interview panel to demonstrate your advanced knowledge and understanding of arbitration. To qualify to upgrade to Chartered Arbitrator status you will need to: Be a Fellow of CIArb through the arbitration route Complete and return an Interview Registration Form Pass a Chartered Arbitrator interview with a panel of three approved interviewers. CIArb offers a full range of courses through our Pathways training programme which leads to CIArb membership at every grade, including fast-track routes for highly qualified practitioners. If you have completed one of these courses, you could be eligible to join CIArb at the appropriate grade without any further training. 7 Your CIArb online Once you have become a member of CIArb you will have a dedicated log-in to access key CIArb benefits including: Accessing and downloading the CIArb logo, relevant to your post nominals, which you can add to your signature to promote your ADR knowledge and commitment. Accessing your member profile. We will promote you in our online members directory, which could be key in securing appointments and opportunities. Here are a few tips: After accessing the CIArb website ( click on Login on the right-hand side of the page. You will need your address and password. If you have forgotten your password, you can click the Forgotten your password option. On the MyCIArb page the details that regularly require updating are on the left. These include: personal details, professional profile, member s profile and CPD record. Click on the Member Profile tab on the left-hand side to select what information should be visible in the members directory and click the Show button to publish. Save the details. When updating your personal details, include a link to your website and/or LinkedIn profile if you have one. Both personal and professional contact details can be updated on the MyCIArb Login page. Remember, CIArb logos can be downloaded from the membership area for your professional use. To access electronic versions of The Resolver and The Journal, click on the Publications section. Click on the Subscriptions tab to check the delivery address is correct and to opt for paperless versions. Don t forget that information on CIArb membership level upgrades can be accessed by logging into MyCIArb. If you are keen to promote CIArb membership throughout your network click on the Membership tab. Then click on How to join, which can be found near the top of the page in the black strip. Copy and paste the weblink and send to your colleagues addresses. A CIArb form, subscription rates and methods of payment can also be accessed under How to join.
