1 Job Descriptions 2016 JEFF COOPER CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER/EXECUTIVE PASTOR BIBLE BASED FELLOWSHIP 800 IN WORSHIP Reports to: Senior Pastor Scope of Responsibility The COO/XP is responsible for assisting in strategy development, tactical execution, business development, staff development and operational performance. General duties include planning, organizing, and directing the church business operations and administration functions. The COO/XP oversees all analysis, planning and forecasting activities relating to church ministries and operations. Additionally, the incumbent will establish policies, processes and procedures to ensure that activities are appropriately tracked and analyzed to support fact-based financial and budget decision-making within the church. The COO/XP is responsible for church administration including financial performance monitoring, accounting, budgeting, office administration, human resource management, security, facilities management, and data and information technology management. The COO/XP works closely with the Senior Pastor to conduct organizational assessments and ensure the organization is appropriately structured and staffed. Qualifications The COO/XP should have a demonstrated successful track record of leading operations with the following qualifications, competencies and skills: Master s degree in business and/or management or related field; Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior management roles; Decisive leadership skills and executive presence including the ability to interact effectively with and earn the trust of varying levels of staff and ministry leadership; High level of integrity and responsibility; commitment to values of mutual respect, team work and support for staff; Preferred experience in church leadership or administration and formal masters level theological training Outstanding management skills, profound business acumen and a proven ability to drive change; These items are for individual use only. 2 Strong analytic skills, sound judgment and a keen sense of diplomacy and discretion; Ability to prioritize, manage and advance multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously; Independent thinker who can serve as a sounding board to the Senior Pastor/CEO and collaborate and differ in a respectful and informed manner; Successful in forming and maintaining productive collaborations and in developing consensus while addressing competing needs; Advanced working knowledge of MS Office products (word, excel, outlook); Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational, project management, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills Duties and Responsibilities Work creatively and strategically with the church administration management team to ensure BBF, Inc. operates efficiently, effectively and according to approved operating plan; Provide leadership and oversight of day-to-day operations in the development, production, promotion and financial aspects of the organizations products and services; Hire, supervise, coach and implement corrective action when necessary to direct reports; Work closely with the Senior Pastor/CEO in planning, evaluating and prioritizing projects, strengthening the organizational structure and growing the church membership; Coordinate the strategic planning process in conjunction with the Senior Pastor/ CEO, recommend the annual operational budget to the CEO and Board for review and approval, manage effectively within this budget and report accurately on progress made and the challenges encountered; Establish operating policies consistent with the CEO s broad policies and objectives and ensure their execution; Oversee all church administration department activities that implement the organization s polices; Implement programs that meet the organization s goals and objectives and ensure all departments and staff have goals and objectives directly related to the overall organization strategy; Create the structure and processes necessary to manage the organization s current activities and its projected growth; Maintain a sound plan of corporate organization, establish policies to ensure adequate staff development and plan for capable leadership succession; Develop and implement procedures and controls that promote communication and adequate information flow within the organization; Conduct staff and various ministry leadership meetings in the absence of the Senior Pastor

3 Elevate synergy throughout the organization by enhancing team building, organization morale, collaboration, individual and team accountability and staff empowerment; Supervise design of hardware and software systems to assist in the smooth and efficient flow of information; Evaluate the results of overall operations regularly and systematically and report these results to the CEO and, when requested, the oversight board; Ensure that the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all direct subordinates are defined and understood; Ensure that all organization activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and laws governing business operations; and Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor/CEO.

4 LARRY DAVIES EXECUTIVE PASTOR, CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH 1,200 IN WORSHIP Overview The Executive Pastor is to provide vision support and coordination of all ministries. He will function as the chief administrator of multiple staff. He is responsible for the establishment of priorities and the orderly implementation of approved activities and plans. He is a voting member of the elder board and is a member of the Pastoral Leadership Team. Responsibilities Administration Primarily responsible for leading the search for unfilled staff and volunteer positions. He serves as supervisor for all staff, with the exception of the Pastoral Leadership Team. 6/2017 He serves as supervisor for all non-pastoral staff to ensure that their efforts cohere with the mission of the church and that they have the share of resources they need. Coordination He will coordinate all seminars and conferences related to the further development for church leaders and staff. He will oversee budget planning and monitor financial performance to insure that expenses stay within budget. He will coordinate all activities associated with growth of all ministries and facility expansion until 9/2016. He will coordinate communication of plans and vision to the congregation until 9/2016. He will coordinate any ministries that do not have direct pastoral oversight. Implementation He is a member of the Pastoral Leadership Team, which provides vision planning for all Staff led and Board approved actions. He will oversee the implementation of the PLT actions so that communication, harmony and faithfulness to the vision prevail. He will mentor the appropriate staff as necessary to assure staff cooperation, unity, effectiveness and efficiency. He will monitor the appropriate staff expectations, goals and training. He will assure that all financial reports and activities are managed properly and in a timely manner.

5 Reporting and Reviews The Executive Pastor is accountable to the Elder Board, which reserves the liberty to modify this position description in collaboration with Executive Pastor to accommodate changing conditions and unmet needs. 6 JON HURST ASSISTANT EXECUTIVE PASTOR, EVFREE FULLERTON 3,800 IN WORSHIP Reports to: Direct Reports: Works with: Executive Pastor Employees in the Library & Well Director of Accounting, Assistant Executive Pastor Scope The role is to perform vital work in the Business Office and complete significant projects in the three areas of an Executive Pastor Church Operations, Ministry Strategy & Executive Functions. This person will bring significant business skills that will advance the business office of the church. In the three or four years of on-the-job training, this person will learn the aspects of being an Executive Pastor. Business Office Functions 25% Using skills from ones business life, serve in the business & fiduciary functions of the church: HR & Benefits Oversee and perform HR work in the church. Work with the Executive Pastor in hiring new staff. Work with brokers and bids for employee benefits, assist staff with the benefits. Financial Review and negotiate contracts, signer on accounts, signing checks, financial reporting, budget creation, investment committee, Apartment LLC Board, review invoices & requests Insurance & Legal be the point of contact for all matters for the church. Bids, brokers, carriers & claims interaction. Oversee all insurance policies of the church. Work with vendors. Hone the business operations of The Well. Work with the Finance Team. Special Projects 65% In the context of doing significant projects, the Assistant XP will learn best practices and options for ministry functions. This will cover the three areas of an Executive Pastor Church Operations, Ministry Strategy & Executive Functions. Ministerial Issues 10% Participate in staff meetings and other church gatherings. Perform weddings, funerals, baptisms, communion, etc. Pastor on call one time a month for 2 days. As needed, take classes at Talbot Seminary. Complete all XPastor Certification Courses.

7 KYUNG HO HONG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, YOUNG NAK CELEBRATION CHURCH The Executive Director is the chief administrator (operational officer) at YNCC, reporting to the Senior Pastor. The executive director shall serve the church by directing all administrative and operational aspects of YNCC and working with the pastors, staff and lay leadership to ensure that proper and efficient planning, recordkeeping, and administrative operations are carried out in all YNCC ministries. Specific Responsibilities 1. Work with the Executive committee (Senior Pastor, Campus Lead Pastors, Global Missions Pastor, and Executive Director) to understand and compile the long-term mission and goals of YNCC and help in planning processes involving the pastors, staff and lay leaders. 2. Manage Central Team (Media, Finance, HR, Facility, Administrative) to ensure efficient use of our human resources, leveraging and coordinating with our volunteer leaders. Central Team is to provide various operational supports for all the campuses. 3. Represent the church in managing our external, non-ministerial (operational) relationships. 4. Direct the management of church administration including church recordkeeping (e. archival system for official files and notes of historical significance), budget planning, periodic financial analysis, implementing operational initiatives, and providing various reports to MOO, Governance Session, and Executive Committee monthly, quarterly, and annually. 5. Participate in MOO, Governance Session, and Executive Committee meetings ensure central staff is adequately represented and ensure that proper minutes are recorded. Working Relationships 1. 8 ED KELLY EXECUTIVE PASTOR, BAY AREA COMMUNITY CHURCH 2,000 IN WORSHIP Reports to: Senior Pastor Supervises : All Team Leaders The Staff Team Leader will work under the authority of and be directly accountable to the Senior Pastor. This relationship will be maintained through regular personal interaction with the Senior Pastor. A high level of trust and mutual respect is essential. The Staff Team Leader must complement the ministry of the Senior Pastor, enabling him to maximize his gifts and strengths. Purpose of the Position The Staff Team Leader will function as an extension of the senior pastor s leadership, providing leadership to the church by supervising, equipping, and resourcing staff team leaders to maximize their effectiveness in implementing the vision, mission and strategic plan. He is responsible to hire, fire and oversee the staff so that the staff are missionally aligned with the strategic plan. The Staff Team leader, under the oversight of the Senior Pastor, is responsible for executing the ministry plan. Establish and maintain an annual ministry planning process inclusive of ministry event planning, master church calendar, and financial plan. Commensurate with the long range plan and objectives, project facilities needs with accompanying strategic plans for construction and financial costs. Communication Responsible for clear and appropriate communication between staff and departments. Works with Senior Pastor to assure clear communication between the Elders and the staff in a timely manner. Financial planning and oversight Works with the Senior Pastor in presenting the church budget to the elders for approval. Responsible for overseeing the budget among staff. 10 STEVEN RAGAN EXECUTIVE PASTOR, RIVERSIDE BAPTIST CHURCH Reports to: Lead Pastor Accountable to: Lead Pastor & Personnel Ministry Team Primary Ministry Role The primary role of the Executive Pastor is to ensure that the mission and vision of Riverside Baptist Church (RBC) is executed properly by overseeing the overall church ministry. This includes the management of the finance department, personnel, and overall vision implementation. This position is the staff liaison for: Budget & Finance Team and Personnel Team. Major Duties and Responsibilities 30% Implement and oversee the church financial system. This includes accounts receivables, accounts payable, payroll, 501(c)3 compliance, and long term financial accounts. Managing ministry assistants who assist in accounting tasks and meeting with the Budget & Finance Ministry Team is imperative to this duty. 25% Oversee and manage the church personnel staff. This includes enforcing personnel policies, ensuring a Christ-centered work environment, and evaluating personnel and resourcing needs. Meeting with the Personnel Team is imperative to this duty. 25% Consultation and oversight of all church ministries and their leaders to ensure that all E church ministries align with the overall vision and mission of Riverside Baptist Church. This includes the implementation and execution of vision at the direction of the Lead Pastor or the Pastor s Council. Meeting regularly with the Lead Pastor is imperative to this duty. 10% Oversee and manage the general administration of the church. This includes managing the daily functions of the church office. 5% Provide necessary assistance to the Lead Pastor to fill the pulpit from time to time. This includes active participation in weekly services and special activities sponsored by RBC ministries, whether activities directly or indirectly pertain or affect the Executive Pastor s primary areas of responsibility. 5% Provide ministerial counseling, pastoral care, and evangelistic outreach to church E members, their families, and church prospects. Expectations 1. Keep regular office hours. When job responsibilities carry him outside the boundaries of the office, proper notification should be given to office personnel. 2. Oversee accurate accounting of the church financial system including all assets, liquid accounts, investments, payables, and payroll. 3. Oversee proper maintenance of church facilities and equipment.

11 4. Meet regularly with Budget & Finance, Personnel, and Pastor s Council Teams to manage church business matters. 5. Meet regularly with staff members to ensure that each position is being executed in line with church vision and personnel expectations. 6. Plan with the Budget and Finance Committee the church budget for the year, and supply regular financial reports to the committee for review. This includes communicating with ministry volunteers to monitor spending and make sure it aligns with budget receipts. 7. Plan with the Personnel Committee each job description as well as personnel benefits. This includes handling any personnel issues as directed by the personnel committee. 8. Oversee accurate tracking of personnel benefits and programs (i.e. sick time, vacation time, leave, retirement accounts, insurances, etc). 9. Manage the church personnel in order for the church office to work effectively and efficiently, in the absence of the Lead Pastor and at his discretion. 10. Manage the Ministry Assistant to ensure that all clerical work is efficiently and appropriately handled. 11. Maintain visibility in the community through visits to homes, schools, events and outreach. 12. Provide helpful, timely, Christian assistance to members and staff. 13. Support initiatives of the Riverside Baptist Church body, the staff and committees. 14. Maintain a professional, businesslike appearance both in person and in work environment. 15. Maintain a dependable work record in attendance and timeliness. 16. Present a heart for ministry and a willingness to share Christ with members, volunteers, staff, visitors and the community. 17. Support the Baptist Faith and Message (as amended from time to time) and the practices and beliefs of the Southern Baptist Convention. 18. Knowledge and Skills Experience: Five years to eight years of similar or related experience and supervisory/management experience. Education: A four-year college degree. Degree and ministry related experience is preferred. Degree emphasis in Christian ministries, theology, business, or accounting are preferable. Consideration may be given to candidates who are working toward a degree, or who possess the specific talents and experience required to perform the duties of the Executive Pastor. Interpersonal: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization. Sensitivity to a spectrum of circumstances and behaviors is expected when dealing with students, parents and the church at large.

16 KEITH VESSELL EXECUTIVE PASTOR, FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Position Summary The Executive Pastor takes the vision of the Senior Pastor and implements it with the ministry staff of pastors, directors, ministers and coordinators. Aspects include: ministry evaluation, goal setting, strategy, development and mentoring. The Executive Pastor is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of church staff and leadership, leading all functional areas in the accomplishment of the church s mission. This includes outreach, arts, pastoral care, small groups, student and children s ministry areas as well as strategic planning, finance, administration, human resources, and operations. While the Senior Pastor builds relationship, mentors and presents vision the Executive Pastor creates the agenda and leads the implement the vision. Responsibilities: The Executive Pastor will Lead the ministry staff in the establishment and ongoing direction of ministries that effectively reach the church s demographic, insuring the accomplishment of the overall mission. Facilitate the annual strategic planning process including evaluation of ministry performance; review of mission, vision, and core values; development of key objectives and tactics; and establishment of three year goals. Establish and maintain a set of key performance measures (Balance Scorecard) that provide the Senior Pastor and church staff with ongoing visibility of the effectiveness of all functional areas of the church. Develop the leadership structure of the church and oversee its efficiency and effectiveness. Lead church planting efforts including development of a strategy, networking with other church planting focused churches for funding and provision of other needed

17 resources as well as identification, development, and leadership of lead church planters. Ensure that the stated vision and direction of the church is implemented consistently and graciously in the entire church. Direct the hiring of staff and also the formal procedure in dismissing or repositioning of staff. To look for best practices of other churches or organizations. To make recommendations to church staff and/or Ministry Support Team of things that need to be addressed for the future development of the church ministries. To actively engage in an effective personal ministry to the congregation through teaching groups or classes and having individual appointments. To conduct congregational care visits, be available for counseling weddings, funerals, etc. as needed.
