1 Job Description Key Stage 2 Manager Red Oaks Primary School Redhouse Way Swindon SN25 2AN The appointment is subject to the current conditions of employment for teachers contained in the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document This job description may be amended at any time following discussions between the Headteacher and teacher and will be reviewed on an annual basis as part of the Performance Management process. The Key Stage 2 Manager will have the same responsibilities as teachers and coordinators as outlined below with additional duties as part of their management role as a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT). Teachers are expected to: * Work with all members of staff and the Governing Body to realise the vision of the school * Promote the school ethos in all aspects of school life * Set high expectations for all pupils and support staff and continually strive to raise standards * Be familiar with and show a clear understanding of all school policies and ensure that they are all put into practice * Take full responsibility for a class or groups during the school day as appropriate, including movement around the school especially at the beginning of lunchtime * Allow enough preparation time to set up the lessons for each new day and leave the classroom tidy * Provide quality teaching and learning opportunities that are appropriate for the full range of children s abilities * Assess individual needs and plan, prepare and match programmes and resources to cater for those needs, including writing and reviewing IEPs in conjunction with the SENCO

2 * Develop a stimulating and interactive classroom which provides a welcoming and safe learning environment unless you do not have a class responsibility * Work as a team to promote high standards in the appearance of all areas of the school and to take good care of all school resources * Develop excellent working relationships with parents, other colleagues and outside agencies * Attend all parents evenings, workshops and children s performances for parents as well as the majority of school functions when appropriate including the Staff Governor Conference * Attend and contribute to meetings and courses during/out of school time to support professional development throughout the school * Keep up to date with new Government Initiatives and changes in educational thought and practice * Ensure that all children are collected from school by a recognised adult or are sent home as agreed with parents * Take responsibility for the playground at least once a week * Actively take part and organise assemblies and acts of collective worship * Take part in the school s annual Performance Management Programme both as a line manager and as a participant * Take responsibility for a small aspect of the work of a learning campus through our extended schools programme Co-ordinators are expected to: * Take responsibility for the post and ensure clear lines of communication are set up with the management team and all colleagues * Audit, organise and upkeep the relevant resources to ensure accessibility and support for quality learning opportunities * Show and share exemplary practice in relation to the post * Work alongside colleagues where appropriate, extending and developing strengths and weaknesses

3 * Promote appropriate opportunities for full staff training/professional development through staff meetings, TD Days, inset and adviser consultation etc * Keep abreast of new initiatives and disseminate relevant information to the appropriate staff to ensure that best practice is maintained * Set up and regularly update a file of evidence including a portfolio of work to support the development of the co-ordinated area in line with school policy * Formally monitor the co-ordinated area through; scrutiny of work and planning, lesson observations and children interviews and analysis of tracking procedures. Evaluate the outcomes with staff and governors outlining strengths and weaknesses and future developments * Co-ordinate the drafting and updating of relevant policy documents and share with staff, governors and parents * Co-ordinate the development of schemes of work * Ensure that parents and governors are fully informed about developments and liaise regularly with a link governor * Be proactive in raising the profile of the co-ordinated area Management * The Key Stage 2 Manager will play a major role as part of the SMT under the overall direction of the Headteacher in: a) Formulating the aims and objectives of the Key Stage; b) Establishing the policies through which they shall be achieved; c) Managing staff and resources to that end; and d) Monitoring progress towards their achievement. * The Key Stage 2 Manager will be expected to undertake any professional duties of the Headteacher that are reasonably delegated by the Headteacher * In the event of the Headteacher and/or deputy head s absence, the Key Stage Manager may have designated responsibility to take over any of these professional duties. * A break of reasonable length as near to the middle of each school day as is reasonably practicable will be offered

4 * A reasonable period of PPA and management release time will be given to the Key Stage 2 Manager The Key Stage 2 Manager will be expected to: * Manage a specific phase within the school and be directly accountable for all the stakeholders and related outcomes * Contribute to relevant sections of SEF * Act as a role model to staff in relation to teaching and learning and in the role of co-ordinator, through exemplary practice * Be aware of, and communicate the needs of all staff to the SLT * Have excellent communication and diplomacy skills * To formally report to the Governing body as and when needed * Assist in the appointment of new staff where appropriate * Mentor NQTs if requested Other Duties: * In accordance with the provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself, colleagues and pupils who may be affected by your omissions at work, and to co-operate with the school so far as is necessary to enable the school to perform of comply with their duties under statutory health and safety provisions * Undertake any other duties that can be accommodated with the grading level and nature of this post
