Provisional appointments may not exceed three (3) years. The Department of Public Health (DPH) is accepting applications for one (1) full time Temporary Provisional (TPV) position in class 2585 Health Worker 1 for the Population Health Division, Communicable Disease Control & Prevention Section. Please note the applicant pool from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies in this class at other locations. Location: Adult Immunization and Travel Clinic (AITC), 101 Grove Street Shift: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Essential Duties: Under the close supervision and guidance of health professionals and paraprofessionals, the Health Worker 1 provides entry level support and facilitates interaction between clients, health providers

The essential duties include: Deals routinely with the public in person and on the phone in a professional and helpful manner; Provides advice to the public about availability of immunizations, and works with nursing staff to provide appropriate referrals for clients when necessary; Makes clinic appointments and appointment reminder calls; Registers AITC clients upon arrival, ensures paperwork is complete and in good order; Handles cash and credit card payment transactions; Checks client insurance coverage using online resources; Uses Microsoft Office, , web browser, and several proprietary computer software programs regularly and often simultaneously in order to accomplish duties; Understands and explains to clients the value of over-the-counter products used for international travel health, such as insect repellent and water disinfection; Assists in the management of efficient client flow through the clinic; Assists in the proper storage and handling of refrigerated and frozen vaccines; Assists in the writing and graphic presentation of informational documents; Assists in the development of clinic procedures and protocols; Maintains confidentiality of protected health information according to DPH standards; Supplies clients and other agencies with educational materials on vaccination as necessary; Participates in special events, client outreach, community health fairs, off site clinics, and other activities related to immunizations; Serves clients from a variety of ethnic and economic backgrounds; and Assists with ordering supplies and managing inventory. The Health Worker 1 performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Six (6) months of verifiable experience within the last five (5) years, working with a culturally diverse population performing a combination of the following range of duties: providing information, education, intervention and/or referral services; developing of treatment plans; conducting interviews/investigations; advising counseling clients; escorting/transporting clients; providing courier/dispatcher functions and participating in health promotion and health education outreach activities. Substitution: Possession of a Community Health Worker Certificate from City College of San Francisco can substitute for 6 months of experience. Desirable Qualifications: The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred for hiring. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Previous work experience in a clinic setting. Knowledge of immunization and related issues. Must be able to keep client information confidential by following HIPAA guidelines. Experience using and competence in operating desktop PC computers and software including Windows, Microsoft Office, , and web browser software. Ability to handle payment transactions in an accurate manner. Good written and verbal communication skills. Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish, Mandarin or Cantonese. SELECTION PROCEDURES The selection procedure will include evaluation of applications and the supplemental questionnaire in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate qualifications of candidates. Language Proficiency Exam For positions requiring bilingual fluency, candidates deemed qualified who meet the special

CONVICTION HISTORY As part of the selection process an image of your fingerprints will be captured and sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) history will disqualify you as a candidate based on the specific requirements of the position to which you are applying. If selected for fingerprinting, the hiring department will contact you to schedule an appointment. Candidates applying for positions with the Unified School District and the Community College District may be disqualified from consideration should their conviction history not meet the standards established under the California Education Code.
