2/8 I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Truck scales are capable of weighing vehicles of big size and mass certified.

The scales are 3 m wide and range from 8 or 9 m until 20 m in length.

The weighing capacity of the weighbridges is between 15-80 tons.

Types: The different types are named VSH (concrete) and TMS (steel) depending on the concrete or steel construction.

2 2/8 I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Truck scales are capable of weighing vehicles of big size and mass certified. The most important characteristics are the dimension, the material of the weighing platform and the weighing limit. These characteristics are usually related with each other. The scales are 3 m wide and range from 8 or 9 m until 20 m in length. The recommended length of the platform is calculated by taking the longest vehicle to be weighed and add m to the first and last axle distance. The weighing capacity of the weighbridges is between tons. Taking in consideration the allowed axle loading the most in demand truck scale is the one of 18 m length and 60 tons capacity. Types: The different types are named VSH (concrete) and TMS (steel) depending on the concrete or steel construction. By the type of mounting the scales can be executed with pit (at the level of the ground) or without pit (with ramps on both sides). TYPES BY THE MATERIAL OF THE WEIGHING PLATFORM Advantages and disadvantages of both types: Steel weighbridge The construction is a welded painted steel platform, which is delivered ready for use to the site of installation. Advantages of the steel weighbridge: fast installation and start-up at the site (1-2 days) easy to relocate (1 day) can be delivered to the site completely ready Disadvantages of the steel weighbridge: on the long run large surfaces require protection against corrosion loadability of the bridge is not homogeneous on the entire surface, only directed (longitudinal) traffic is allowed (this disadvantage comes out in the case of weighbridges mounted in pit) Concrete weighbridge The frame of the platform is delivered to the site welded and painted, and serves as mould for concreting. Anchoring and concreting of the bridge has to be made at the site of mounting. Advantages of the concrete weighbridge: on the long run protection against corrosion is significantly cheaper homogeneous loadability on the entire surface, no traffic direction is needed. protection of load-cells against the dynamic loading is favorable (due to the bigger mass of the bridge) lower production costs Disadvantages of concrete weighbridge: relocation is more expensive mounting depends on the weather (due to concreting at the site) the entire construction time is about 10 days longer (compared to the steel weighbridge) III. TYPES BY THE MODE OF MOUNTING Advantages of both types: Truck scale in shallow pit: The construction at the level of the ground is more aesthetic Smaller space requirement There is no need to concrete the ramps Easier to drive on the platform Environmentally sound construction Truck scale with ramps: There is no need to execute a pit There is no need to worry about water diversion Pit does not to be cleaned Weighing cannot be manipulated by driving off the bridge Attrition is less due to the longitudinal loadability Cleaning is easier with water stream The truck driver does not speed on the weighing platform

Electronic equipment-indicator Instrumentation The evaluation electronics of the scale contains the latest technological solutions; it can be certified and has a PC connection. To meet special requirements it can also be manufactured with dual range weighing limit. (for example: with steps of 10 kg up to 30 tons and with steps of 20 kg between tons). An auxiliary display and a computer can also be connected to the equipment. The equipment can be operated in an office environment. The house of the scale needs to be placed in a way that the operator could see the entire truck scale. 5 5/8 2. Load-cells Our built-in HBM type load-cells enjoy a high reputation worldwide, being the best and the most reliable. The load-cells have rustproof construction; they are closed with laser welding and equipped with self-control load transmission unit and swing protection. Besides the HBM type cells, it is feasible to build reliable scales by using cheaper load-cells ranked only in the second line. Nevertheless, as far as we are concerned, we appreciate reliability more than cost cutting thus we build in these load-cells exclusively based on a specific customer request.
