14 SEPTA Regional Rail Operations SEPTA Regional Rail Train Numbering Prefix (optional) plus Line Number plus Run Number Prefix 0 added to normal three digit runs to differentiate them from Amtrak runs of the same number 1 Saturday-only runs of a particular train 2 Sunday-only runs of a particular train 3 unassigned 4 denotes trains that originate on one route, run through Center City tunnel, and terminate on another route (i.e. Norristown to Wilmington will originate as an R6 line train and terminate as an R2 line train.) 5 denotes trains that originate or terminate at either Wayne Jct. or the Fern Rock Transportation Center 6 denotes trains that originate or terminate at Powelton Ave Yard 7 denotes trains that originate or terminate at Suburban Station 8 denotes trains which originate or terminate at Market East Station 9 denotes trains which originate or terminate at Roberts Ave. Yard Line Number 1 Airport 2 Warminster through to Marcus Hook/Wilmington/Newark 3 West Trenton through to Media/Elwyn 5 Lansdale/Doylestown through to Paoli/Thorndale 6 Norristown through to Cynwyd 7 Chestnut Hill East through to Trenton 8 Fox Chase through to Chestnut Hill West Run Number The run number is sequential 2-digit number that increases through the daily schedule. The last digit of the run number is even for trains inbound on ex-prr lines/outbound on ex-rdg lines, and odd for trains inbound on ex- RDG lines/outbound on ex-prr lines. Example: Train 4624 originates on the R6 Norristown Line (hence the 6 in place two) and runs through to termination on the R2 Wilmington Line (via Amtrak NEC) (hence the 4 in place one). As previously stated, the 24 is simply the next trip number used on the timetable (see top of SEPTA timetables for run numbers) and, being even, denotes a run inbound to Philadelphia via an ex-reading Railroad commuter route and outbound from Philadelphia on an ex- Pennsylvania Railroad commuter route.
