2 Meet Our Team We found what we needed at Flaman My name is Howie Mercer, Plant Manager at Souris River Seeds in Weyburn, SK. We are a bulk processing facility that specializes in buying and cleaning pulses for all over Saskatchewan and Alberta. We are responsible to get this product cleaned and shipped out to port to meet our customer needs overseas, as well as take care of the growers that we have purchased the product from. Our facility was a seed cleaning plant that needed some minor upgrades to be ready to ship for export. We found most of what we needed at Flaman whether it be bins, equipment, or even pipes and fittings. It has been nice to be able to rely on a business that can supply you with what you need in a timely manner and also take care of what was sold to you. We have found that with Flaman Sales. Since Flaman already had their hands in most sectors of the agriculture industry, and I had experience in the grain industry, we figured that it only made sense to team up and create a grain cleaning and handling division within the group of companies. I began doing on-farm demos with a Forever Rotary Cleaner, continually asking farmers how we could serve their needs better. A few years later we answered back with the development of a screen division where we custom built screens and frames for all makes and models of grain cleaners. We continued to adapt to the industry and customer needs by picking up and experimenting with different lines of equipment. Seventeen years later, Flaman Grain Cleaning offers a full screen manufacturing division, various lines of grain cleaners, bucket elevators and other handling material, colour sorters, service and install crews, and most importantly, the experience and expertise that we pass on to all of our customers to make sure they are satisfied with the service they receive. What has given us success in the industry is our ability to offer our customers a complete package start to finish. We supply the equipment, the install crews, and the service technicians for every item that goes in and out of our doors. 4 Satake Colour Sorters Happy with colour sorter service Forty-four years ago I started cleaning grain with my uncle at 125 bu/hr using only a 22sg Carter indent and (2) 245 Carter air/screen machines. Five years later I started cleaning with a 300 bu/hr mobile that I designed myself. I later built my third mobile that will do between bu/hr and is mounted on a tandem truck. Although I have been cleaning grain my whole life, and it was when the ergot market took off in 2009/10 that I started dealing with Flaman Grain Cleaning and Handling and built my next two mobiles. These mobiles were strictly designed for colour sorting. I m happy with the service that Flaman has provided me over the past few years and look forward to continuing this relationship in the future. 10 Grain Cleaning Services Committed to service My name is Sheldon Ball and I ve worked with Flaman in the Grain Cleaning division for almost a year. I am a colour sorter field service technician. One of the most exciting machines available for grain cleaning (in my opinion) is the colour sorter. The colour sorter has been around since the 1950s but with the speed of technology today, companies like Satake are able to manufacture machines that sort very efficiently and fast. Our workhorse of the prairies is the Satake Alpha Scan II High Flow, which is capable of sorting wheat at up to 25 tonnes per hour! We also sell and service a full color spectrum sorter called the Evolution, which is capable of sorting any defect the human eye can detect. I said before that I work with Flaman, not for Flaman. This is because of the truly collaborate effort of all the employees here who commit to customer service. 12 Specialists in Screens Screens have come a long way Thirty-five years have disappeared since I first started cleaning grain. I started with the common farm grains and then got into food grade, where we have to guarantee 99.9% purity. I have cleaned most everything from amarath, to dill seed, to spices; from as far away as the Peace River area to Manitoba, the American border to Hudson Bay. Cleaning grain has changed in some ways in my 35 years and yet stayed the same. Grain is still graded by length, by width and by weight. When I started cleaning, colour sorting was unheard of. The equipment has been refined and made more operator friendly. One of the biggest changes to me is in the screens. The old screens were made of zinc with wood frames; new screens are steel with aluminum frames. Whatever my needs are I know I can count on Roy or Jeff from Flaman.
