Education & Training Updates During this period Federation of Malaysian Freight Forwarders (FMFF) have conducted the following courses: sessions of Foundation Course in Freight Forwarding and Multimodal Transport. Total of 186 participants attended the sessions. 2 To facilitate the renewal of Custom Agent License the forwarding companies are required to attend the Customs Agent s course (KEK). During the term, FMFF conducted 6 Customs Agent s courses and 4 Shipping Agent s course. A total of 451 participants attended and benefited from the program. 2. FMFF has been accredited to conduct the FIATA Diploma course in October To date 97 students have attended various modules of the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding. 3. FMFF is still in discussion with DCA, Malaysia to get the necessary clearance to conduct the ICAO-FIATA DGR Program. 2 Forthcoming Training & Development Updates Program for 2013 FMFF have broadened its range of training courses offered in the year Some of the courses are: 1. Incoterms participants from 2 classes and another class is scheduled in July Dangerous Goods Regulations-Basic 8 participants 3. Customs Facilitations 8 participants 4. Introduction to Logistics Security 7 participants 5. Import/Export Requirements 13 participants. FMFF/PFFA has set up its Approved Training Centre under IATA, which was officially opened on 9 th of March The ATC has conducted the IATA Introductory course in February 2013, with 10 participants. 4

5 FMFF has continued its collaboration with TARC (Tuanku Abdul Rahman College), Centre for Extension Learning to conduct the Foundation course for mature students and those interested to join the logistics industry. 4 courses have already been conducted during this period. FMFF is also in collaboration with UTAR (University Tuanku Abdul Rahman) to collaborate on the Degree in Logistics program, which will incorporate the FIATA Diploma programme into the Degree program.. MUST (Malaysia University of Science and Technology) and FMFF has signed an MOA to collaborate on the Foundation and FIATA Diploma program, to be embedded into MUST s Diploma and Foundation Programs. The MUST Diploma program in Freight Forwarding has received the accreditation of the Malaysian Qualifications Agency. The Diploma program in MUST commenced in April 2013, with FMFF providing the lecturers. FMFF has also entered into MOU with AEC (Ace Education Consortium, Singapore) and its Malaysian associate Malvern International College to collaborate on the Diploma in Freight Forwarding program. Government has set up the MLSC (Malaysian Logistics and Supply Chain Council) in 2013 as a platform to deliberate and propose policy decisions affecting the logistics industry. The MLSC is jointly chaired by the Secretaries General of Ministry of International Trade and Industry and Ministry of Transport. 4 Focus Groups have been set up to deliberate and submit proposals for deliberation at the MLSC. The 4 Focus Groups are: Focus Group on Trade Facilitation Focus Group on Infrastructure and Transport Focus Group Industry, Best Practices and Development Initiatives Focus Group on Institutional & Regulatory Framework FMFF is a member of the first three Focus Groups, which have had their first meeting in April and May. FMFF has submitted the issue of secure freight and the requirements of US and EC countries on air cargo security, including the ACC3 implementation to the Focus Group for deliberation. 3. 6 4. SEA-FREIGHT STATISTICS. Malaysian Sea Ports handled a total of 20, teus in 2012, an increase of 2.8 % over the previous year s throughput of 20,213,519 teus. 6
