2 Transportation Safety Priorities Safety is number one in all we do in EM Using only highly qualified carriers that have been evaluated under our Motor Carrier Evaluation Program Better tracking of transportation performance through data normalization. Identifying best practices and sharing them throughout the complex Standardization of waste containers and quality procurement. 2

5 Who are DOE s Transportation Stakeholders? DOE s Transportation stakeholders include states where DOE sites are located as well as states and tribes that are impacted by DOE shipments passing through their jurisdictions. 5
6 Stakeholder Planning and Reporting Tools Prospective Shipment Report - Compiled twice a year (March/October) from site estimates of shipments for the coming 12-month period Waste Information Management System (WIMS) - Annual data call (December) with update (March) collected from all DOE waste generator sites. - Waste estimates based on project life cycles - Next update (March 2010) will reflect activities associated with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) - 6
7 Stakeholder Planning and Reporting Tools (Continued) Incident/Accident Reporting - A list of current and past DOE transportation incidents/accidents which potentially affect public health and safety is maintained and reported to our transportation stakeholders Events in FY-2009 (6 incorrect documentation, 3 traffic accidents, 2 incidents, and 2 improper shipments Events in FY
