Minimum legal requirement for products to enter European Union (EU) Market Self Declaration stating my product complies with all of the applicable CE Directive requirements Not regulated under follow up service inspections Trend beginning in Asia to accept CE mark in some countries

6 CE Marking Requirement Examples Scope of Compliance Depends on Type of Product Some examples are as follows: ROHS Restriction of Hazardous Substances Product Safety if an ITE product EN nd Edition AM1 EMC Electromagnetic Compatibility Testing for Emissions & Immunity of EMC. If ITE EN 55022/EN RF If the device has a transmitter/radio there are testing and certification requirements depending on the product type and application. i.e. Bluetooth, WiFi, ZigBee, Cellular 3G/4G etc WEEE Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for electrical goods REACH Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals, addresses the production of chemicals and impacts on human health and environment Signed Declaration of Conformity (DOC) by owner of the company/authorized representative attesting to compliance with CE requirements

8 FCC: U.S. EMC & RF Requirements Mandatory regulation by the Federal Communications Commission Intentional Radiator WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, Cellular 3G/4G i.e. a wireless signal Example: a Bluetooth headset, wireless router, tablet RF Testing requirements for Bluetooth: FCC part 15C (US), RSS-210 (Canada), EN v1.8.1 (European Union) Unintentional Radiator No intentional wireless signal but produces electromagnetic radio waves Example: power supply, projector, printer, keyboard, Audio/video device EMC Test requirements: FCC Part 15B (US), ICES 003 (Canada), EN 55022/EN (European Union)

Recommendations: Research Look at your competitors or similar product certifications Identify local testing agencies & ask for sales representative While regulations are the same, not all test labs perform and cost the same. Choose your investments wisely, the cheapest now may be more costly in the future Look to use harmonized standards between countries
