Answer all the questions. 2. Number the answers correctly according to the numbering system used in this question paper. 3. An approved calculator (non-programmable and non-graphical) may be used, unless stated otherwise. 4. All calculations must be clearly shown. 5. All the final answers must be rounded off to two decimal places, unless stated otherwise. 6. Units of measurement must be indicated where applicable.
2 QUESTION 1: The map shows the different states in Australia. Use the map to answer the questions. 1.1 Write down the different states with their capitals. (6) 1.2 Which city is seen as the capital of Australia? (1) 1.3 The total area of Australia is km 2. If the land is covered in km 2, calculate the percentage of the land that will consists of water. (2) 1.4 When diving at the Great Barrier Reef, what is the most likely thing that you will see? (2) 1.5 The following map shows the difference in local time.
3 1.5.1 Calculate the time difference between Perth and Brisbane. (2) If Mary leaves for Perth by plane from Brisbane at 10:35:26 am, what time will she arrive in Brisbane if the flight takes four hours? (2) 1.6 The graph shows popular means of transportation in Melbourne, Australia Use the graph to determine the most popular form of transport. (2) Provide a possible reason why an increase in Metro Train usage was shown in (2) The currency in Australia is Australian dollars (AU$) and 1 AU$ = R9,0381. Determine the cost of a tram ticket in terms of ZAR if the ticket costs 3AU$. (2) 1.7 The Australian flag and its construction sheet are given below.

The following data shows the cost per dinner sold during the first hour of business. (2) Calculate the value of C (in degrees) (3) [22] QUESTION 3: 3.1 Two schools participated in a fundraising project in Water-on-end to help the local old aged home to do some renovations to the building. School A: Learners had to sell blocks on a grid, (15 x 15 blocks), at R5 each. School B: Learners had to sell blocks on a grid consisting of 10 blocks. Each block was sold at the same value as the number on the block How many blocks are on the grid for school A? (2) Calculate the value of a grid for school A if all the blocks are sold. (2) Calculate the amount of money, School A raised if 82 learners each sold a grid. (2) Calculate the value per grid for school B if all the blocks are sold. (2) Calculate the amount of money School B raised if 350 learners each sold a grid. (2) Calculate the total amount raised by the two schools. (2) Write down the amount raised by School A : School B in the simplest form. (2) 3.2 The old age home had to do repairs on the building. Use the following information to complete the given table Paint can only be bought in 10 litre containers at a price of R689,99 per container. The workers need 135 litres of paint to repaint the building.
6 Determine how many containers will be bought and calculate the cost of the paint. (3) All the floor tiles must be replaced and the total area that needs tiles is 280 m 2. The dimension of the tiles is 45 cm x 45 cm. Determine how many tiles will be needed if 5% of tiles are added when purchasing the tiles. (4) Tiles are packed in boxes that contain 12 tiles each. If the boxes are sold at R259,99 each, calculate how much the tiles will cost. (2) If 1 dm 3 tile adhesive can cover 3,5 m 2, how much tile adhesive will be needed to tile the whole area? (2) The cost of tile adhesive is R83,99 per 1 dm 3. Calculate the cost for the tile adhesive. (2) Complete the budget for the old age home, using the total income as the amount that the two schools have raised. (3) [32] QUESTION 4: The Nelson family is planning a wedding for their daughter, Taylor. She is allowed to invite 200 guests to attend the reception at Willows Lodge. 4.1 Taylor had to decide on a wedding cake. There are two possibilities: Cake A: Properties: - four square tiers - dimensions of the base tier is 30cm x 30cm x 30cm - the height of the tiers are the same - the length and breadth decreases with 5 cm for each tier - price R2 365 (2)
7 Cake B: Properties: - four circle tiers - the base tier has a diameter of 30 cm and a height of 10 cm - the height of the tiers are the same - the diameter decreases with 5 cm for each tier - price R Calculate the volume of both the cakes. (6) FORMULAE: Volume of a circle = πr 2 h Volume of a prism = L B H Which cake will be the best value for money when comparing the volume? (2) 4.2 The recipe of fruit punch consists of Soda water : Orange juice : Mango juice in a ratio 3 : 2 : 1. The fruit punch is mixed in bowls with a capacity of 4 litres. The capacity of the glasses is 200 ml How many glasses of fruit punch can be poured from the bowl? (3) Determine how many litres of Soda water will be used in one bowl. (2) If there are 10 people seated per table, how many litres of punch should be mixed if each guest is allowed to have one glass of fruit punch? (2) Determine the cost of the fruit punch if Soda water costs R10,99 per litre, orange juice and mango juice R25 per 2 litre containers. (4)

9 QUESTION 6: The graph shows the number of kids attending a nursery school. 6.1 If each kid pays R1 255 per month, determine the total income of the nursery school for the first twelve months. (3) 6.2 Calculate the average number of kids that attended the nursery school per month over these 12 months. (2) 6.3 Calculate the average income per month for this particular year. (2) 6.4 The rent and expenses per month comes to R Will the school be able to pay the rent and expenses every month, considering over a 12 month period? (3) 6.5 Part of the monthly expenses is water and electricity. If there is a price increase of 16% in electricity, calculate the new payment if the current account is R3 450 per month. (3) 6.6 To cover the new electricity bill, the monthly fee for the kids is increase by R62,75. Calculate the percentage increase per kid.
