3 東吳大學 102 學年度轉學生 ( 含進修學士班轉學生 ) 招生考試試題第 3 頁, 共 5 頁 系級科目 英文 鐘 When he launched Red Bull, a sweet and tangy energy drink in a slim silver can 25 years ago, Dietrich Mateschitz wrote a new chapter in marketing history. The Austrian entrepreneur created a new beverage category: the global market for energy drinks now doubles every year. We don t bring the product to the people. We bring people to the product. We make it available and those who love our style come to us, says Mr. Mateschitz. What Red Bull showed is that mass-market advertising was not the most effective way to reach and keep customers. Instead Mr. Mateschitz launched the brand by persuading students to drive around in Minis and Beetles with a Red Bull can strapped on top, or to throw Red Bull parties around weird and wonderful themes. The company s only advertisements are a series of playful television cartoons. Mr. Mateschitz spent three years developing the drink s image, its packaging and its low-key, basic marketing strategy before testing the product on the Austrian market in He now ploughs 35% of turnover into marketing. However, its carefully nurtured brand faces several challenges. It is now a mass-market product and its first generation of users is growing older. We need to get a new generation of 16-year-olds on board every year, says Mr. Mateschitz. Those who are no longer students are still users, even if they drink less and for different reasons. That suggests another challenge. It makes no sense to build a company on one product. So far he has largely isolated the Red Bull brand. To launch three new-age health drinks, he set up a separate company. 1. What is the main topic of this passage? (A) Red Bull s successful TV advertising. (B) The development of new drinks to replace Red Bull (C) How Dietrich Mateschitz turned Red Bull into a global cult drink. (D) The reason why young people do not like Red Bull anymore. 2. What is NOT true about Red Bull? (A) Red Bull was the first major energy drink on the market. (B) Red Bull has been very popular among students. (C) The development stage of Red Bull lasted 3 years. (D) Red Bull is not heavily marketed at all. 3. The word beverage in line 2, paragraph 1 means (A) energy (B) drink (C) entrepreneur (D) business
4 東吳大學 102 學年度轉學生 ( 含進修學士班轉學生 ) 招生考試試題第 4 頁, 共 5 頁 系級科英文目 4. What is the challenge Red Bull faces? (A) To cover a wide range of consumers. (B) To keep attractive to the young generation. (C) To create new flavors. (D) To establish a new branch outside Austria. 鐘 5. In paragraph 2, which word means what the product comes in? (A) Image (B) Packaging (C) Turnover (D) Low-key Questions 6 to 10 are based on the following passage. What does it take to be a model? You might think that in order to be a model you must be beautiful, tall and thin, but this is not necessarily true. There are as many different sizes, shapes and colors of models as there are modeling jobs. Those advertisements you see on TV and in magazines are full of regular people as models, ranging from babies to elderly people, thin people to overweight people, comical faces to serious faces. More people than you might imagine have the potential to be models. Many people in the marketing industry believe that consumers are intimidated by super-thin, beautiful models who do not reflect the look of the real population. There are modeling agencies whose sole purpose is to recruit and represent models of all ages and sizes, who look good and healthy but do not fit the mold of a classic model. Modeling agencies are also looking for unique people, pregnant women, people with piercings and tattoos, bodybuilders, and people with other interesting features help to fill different needs. There is even a category in many agencies called funny faces, where clients can find models with a comical look for humorous ads or commercials. The famous supermodel Lauren Hutton is proof that you can turn the imperfect feature into an asset. The gap between her teeth is her trademark now and she has appeared on the cover of Vogue a record 25 times. At the age of 58, she is still featured in advertisements for such companies as Gap. Sometimes, a company or magazine wants a specific ethnic background in its ads or photo shoots. Some agencies specialize in models from all over the world, including East Asian, Indian, African, and even Icelandic models. 6. Which of the following is the best title for the passage? (A) You can be a model too! (B) How to be a successful model. (C) How to recruit models. (D) How Lauren Hutton has become a supermodel.

(B) Almost everyone has the chance to appear on the cover of a fashion magazine. (C) Skinny, tall and beautiful models are mostly preferred. (D) Being a model is many people s dream. 鐘 8. According to this passage, what is NOT a feature of a classic model? (A) Tall (B) Super thin (C) Beautiful (D) Funny 9. Which statement is true about the passage? (A) Modeling companies are not interested in people who have a comical look. (B) Lauren Hutton had to retire as a young woman. (C) Some modeling companies work hard to find nontraditional models. (D) Models must have perfect teeth. 10. The word recruit in line 3, paragraph 2 means (A) to look into (B) to hire (C) to classify (D) to train IV.
