1 BRAMPTON FARMERS MARKET 2014 APPLICATION INTENT OF MARKET The Market is operated by the City of Brampton Economic Development Office for the purpose of providing local producer based, Ontario grown, farm fresh fruits, produce and homemade handcrafts to the visitors and residents of Brampton. The Market provides residents and visitors with an open-air market experience where they can purchase a diverse array of fresh produce, baked goods and prepared foods straight from the producer. OPENING DAY June 21, 2014 LAST DAY OF MARKET October 11, 2014 TIME OF MARKET Saturdays 7 am to 1 pm Rain or Shine MARKET LOCATION Main Street North between Queen Street & Theatre Lane Main Street South between Queen Street & John Street GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Operation of Market - The Applicant acknowledges and agrees that the Market will operate at the time, on the dates and at the location listed above. All prospective vendors must complete and sign the Brampton Farmers Market Vendor Registration Form and Agreement package and return it, along with payment, by the deadline dates. 2. Farmers Market Ontario Insurance - All vendors must pay $10 towards the Farmers Markets Ontario Insurance. Please note that the insurance charge has been built into the vendor fee for the 2014 season. Vendors may choose to carry additional insurance. 3. Product Declarations - Vendors are required to submit a complete list of all products they will sell at the market with their application; including approximate price and approximate month of availability. In addition, all food vendors are required to complete and submit Peel Public Health s Vendor Information Form (Appendix A) prior to the start of the season. 4. Cancellation Deadline The Applicant agrees that, if he/she wishes to cancel his/her application to participate in the Market, he/she must do so by June 13, 2014, after which time there will be no refund of the fee for participation. 1
2 SELECTION PROCESS FOR NEW VENDORS: The Brampton Farmers Market is committed to creating a diverse marketplace with the highest quality, locally produced products available. Although the Brampton Farmers Market will not be bound to apply a particular set of selection criteria in every instance and must reserve unconditional discretion to accept or refuse anyone as a Brampton Farmers Market vendor, the market considers many factors when accepting new vendors: AGRICULTURE Priority is given to those regional farmers and producers who bring product to market that is grown and harvested on farmland that they own and/or operate. Preference will be given to a local producer when a space becomes available at the market, without compromising quality. To maintain the integrity of the Farmers Market, a minimum of 51% of all vendors must be farmers, with at least 70% of what they sell having been produced on their own farm. Vendors found to be reselling produce purchased at the Food Terminal will be suspended from the Market for the duration of the season, and will forfeit all fees paid. Product Quality and Presentation Consistently high product quality: fresh, flavourful and ripe Clean and attractive displays Courteous, customer service-oriented and knowledgeable staff Foster a connection between the producer and the consumer Conduct and Compliance History of compliance with market rules and federal, provincial and local regulations Vendor conduct toward customers, fellow vendors, market staff and volunteers Timely submission of application Product Balancing Products that are unique or unusual Products not already represented in the market or in businesses in the downtown Duplicate products may be denied entry Food Safety Adheres to the highest standards in safe food production and handling practices, in accordance to Peel Public Health regulations Seniority Number of years vendor has sold at the market Attendance record Prompt payment of fees History of compliance with market rules Space Availability Admission to market is subject to space availability 2
3 PREPARED FOODS Products must be produced by the vendor in a commercial kitchen/facility approved by Peel Public Health. All food vendors must complete and submit a Public Health Vendor Information Form (Appendix A). Forms will be distributed at the Vendor Meeting or can be obtained by contacting Peel Public Health by at: healthlinepeel@peelregion.ca or online at Due: Friday, May 30, 2014 NOTE: Failure to submit the Vendor Information Form will result in a suspension from market participation and a forfeit of vendor fees. Vendor selection will be based on: Flavour Smell Texture Unique and handmade of the highest quality Artisan quality Market Needs: Market product balance and availability Diversity - offering a product that will appeal to our community s various cultures Labelling: Legal requirements Aesthetics (does not resemble commercial style packaging) Criteria: Improvement to overall product mix in market Consumer demand Number of vendors with similar product Producer s history of selling such product Producer s history of compliance with market rules Businesses in the area with similar products Equipment Inspection Vendors planning to use propane equipment are required to have all their propane equipment inspected. An original copy of the inspection certificate must be provided to the Farmers Market Manager on Friday, May 30, Vendors are responsible for covering the cost of the inspection. Community Group: No Charge (require $2 million liability insurance) Community Groups must be non-profit organizations and can participate in the Market only once per season, and all bookings must be made in advance.
