2 and Margaret Summary: This use case addresses the post processing of the periodically created Real Time Price (RTP) signals for AEP s Smart Grid Dispatch System (SGD). After the RTP is computed, the processing described in this use case occurs, to provide the market clearing price (MCP) to the necessary systems. Narrative: Studies indicate that customers who understand the cost of electricity reduce their usage, especially when prices are high. The RTP system (real-time pricing system) will produce price signals every 5 minutes and will communicate the price signals via the internet to every RTP customer and to the Home Energy Management System (HEM) device at the customer premise. In order to produce this price signal, the new SGD system will take its inputs from many existing systems, including the AMI system. The SGD obtains the necessary inputs and calculates the Price for each distributi feeder. The SGD thens passes Price (including the respse to the HEM bid) to the HEM which then passes it to its provisied Programmable Communicating Thermostats (PCT s). The SGD will also pass the Price to the Meter Data Management System (MDM) and the Customer Informati System (CIS) which passes it to the Customer Web Portal. 4 Actor(s): and Margaret The list of the actors and the roles that are participating in this use case described in the table below. Name CIS Customer Web Portal HEM MDM PCT SGD Role descripti Customer Informati System that is the system of record for customer data and billing. Interactive web-site that is accessible via the internet that enables the exchange and display of informati for the customer Home Energy Management system (aka Customer EMS) Meter Data Management System A Programmable Ctrollable Thermostat that has enhanced display capabilities The Smart Grid Dispatch system is the central system within the realtime pricing soluti Participating Business Functis: The participating business functi, its acrym and what they provide in this use case are detailed in the table below. Acrym Business Functi/Abstract Compent Services or Informati Provided HEM SGD MDM Home Energy Management system. A logical or physical device typically located at the customer facility that acts as a home electricity ctrol center. As known as Customer EMS. Smart Grid Dispatch system. The central system for Real-Time (customer) pricing. This is the Meter Data Management System which provides meter readings and billing determinants to CIS. The HEM will receive the market clearing price to make it available for display the PCT. System that computes the Real-Time (customer) price signal for smart grid operatis. The Meter Data Management system is respsible for collecting the reads from the AMI Head-End, performing VEE (validati, estimati, and editing) services and presenting the billing determinants to CIS.
