A photodiode array based spectrophotometer provides a nearly instantaneous measurement of the entire UV-Visible spectrum. For some applications and methods, this optical configuration offers tremendous advantages in data acquisition and sample throughput compared to a traditional monochromator-based spectrophotometer. Diode array instruments use a reverse optical geometry where light of all wavelengths is passed through the sample. The sample absorbs some characteristic wavelengths based on its composition. Wavelengths of light not absorbed by the sample are transmitted to the detection system. The transmitted light passes through an entrance slit and is then dispersed onto a photodiode array by a grating. Simultaneous detection at all wavelengths throughout the UV and visible regions of the spectrum allows nearly instantaneous display of an absorption spectrum. Traditional, monochromator-based systems measure scan speed in nanometers per minute because only a single wavelength is measured before the monochromator must be moved and the next wavelength measured. In contrast, acquiring data in a single measurement allows an equivalent scan speed of 54,600 nm/min. Further, reverse-optical systems have no moving parts; therefore they provide superior wavelength accuracy and repeatability. These instruments also need much less maintenance and offer much longer interval between qualifications.

Thermostatted 8-Position Cell Changer Thermostatted Single Cell Holder EV Array Diffuse Reflectance Accessory If films are the only solids you need to measure, choose the cost-effective Magnetic Film Holder. Supporting both 10 mm pathlength cuvettes and film samples in a single accessory, the Magnetic Film Holder protects the surface of your film sample between two rubberized magnetic plates. Using two plates allows you to precisely position your film while the sample is outside the sample compartment. Materials Analysis Software VISIONcollect includes a Thickness module which automatically calculates the thickness of a film on a surface based on the number of interference fringes in a specified wavelength range. This calculation can be performed for films on reflecting substrates and for films deposited on transmitting substrates such as glass or plastic. Optional Evolution Array Color software calculates L*a*b* color and color difference between samples as ΔE and individually as L*, a* and b*. Chromaticity values x and y are plotted automatically on a chromaticity diagram and deltas for yellowness can be displayed.
