PLASMA GASIFICATION TECHNOLOGY FOR HAZADOUS WASTE
Plasma Gasification Technology Plasma gasification process is the cleanest proven technology to eliminate hazardous waste, as well as to generate electricity from the process. The hazardous waste is eliminated by means of converting into syngas (synthesis or energy gas) to power efficient and proven internal combustion engines (ICE) or gas turbines (GT) to generate electrical power The research shows this to be the most efficient, proven combination of conversion technologies currently available, a position supported by DECC, and therefore both the most environmentally positive and commercial model
Plasma Gasification Technology Converting multiple feedstock to syngas good for non recycle/non degradable waste/ hazardous waste Plasma gasification uses a high temperature, oxygen starved environment with plasma torches generating a gas which is as hot as the sun s surface to convert waste materials into their elemental gases called synthesis gas syngas, primarily hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. Syngas can then be used to generate Power, Steam, Liquid fuels such as ethanol, Hydrogen and Fertilizer Compounds Non hazardous by product called vitrified slag which can be used as a building material
Plasma Gasification Tecnology Non gaseous, inorganic component of the feedstock are converted to molten slag which is removed as an inert vitrified by-product with commercial applications (aggregate) Potential to recycle fly ash back in to gas if i.e. eliminating this toxic waste Plasma gasification results in substantial net decreases in green house gas (CO2 equivalent) emissions versus traditional landfilling and incineration In a combined cycle process, sulfur and other contaminants in the syngas are removed by proven gas cleanup equipment before the syngas is converted into other energy products
Plasma Gasification Technology
Advantages over Incineration Waste enters the plasma gasifier and is turned into syngas by the very high temperature in a controlled oxygen environment. A lower carbon electricity generation when compared to existing fossil fuel or other waste-to-electricity models such as incineration. In contrast to incineration, the plasma gasification process reduces volumes of pollutant gases, and creates no fly ash or waste ash. Harmful by-products such as dioxins and furans are destroyed by the extremely high temperatures (+6000 C) and by the plasma process itself. The plasma gasification process has many advantages over incineration; fewer potentially pollutant gases and no tar, ash or fly ash are produced. The main by-product, vitrified slag, is inert and can be used as aggregate
Commercial Advantages Minimal feedstock preparation: Typically a basic pre-sorting of recyclables and a one stage shredding of the material Handles a wide range of feed compositions, flexible feedstock: Blend any number of solid or liquid feedstock s Ability to blend feedstocks reduces project feedstock risk and significantly increases project economics High reliability: Operates in rugged industrial applications Over 500,000 hours and 20 years of industrial use on the plasma torches Superior Environmental Footprint: Vitrified Slag is inert/ non-leaching and is being used a construction aggregate Air emissions significantly below legislated limits

Virified slag application for Hazardous waste Vitrified slag application for Hazardous waste system: In Japan, the plant sells the slag to a local cement company to make patio bricks.
