1 Public Information Meeting Information Packet: Childress Drive Bridge over South Utoy Creek June 29, 2016 Welcome to the Public Information Meeting for the proposed replacement of the Childress Drive Bridge over South Utoy Creek. In this handout you will find a description of the project, project location/detour map, project typical section, and a project statistics sheet. As you enter the room, please take a seat for a formal presentation of the project. You will notice multiple displays of layouts as well as the proposed detour route, and we encourage you to remain and view these displays following the presentation question and answer session. Renew Atlanta representatives are available to discuss the project and answer your questions. We request that you first learn about the project and then provide your opinions. The comment card is an excellent way to have your comments recorded. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Childress Drive Bridge over South Utoy Creek was constructed in Design and construction methods at that time were based on smaller loading requirements. Since then, the bridge has undergone significant deterioration. There have been efforts to extend the life of the bridge through routine inspection and periodic maintenance. However, the bridge has neared the end of its life expectancy. In an effort to improve safety for all users of this bridge, we are proposing to replace the existing bridge with a new concrete bridge structure that would clear-span South Utoy Creek. The bridge would have two 12-foot travel lanes (one in each direction) with 2- foot shoulders. Sidewalks would be provided on both sides and would be approximately 6 feet wide. Traffic would be detoured during construction to reduce the construction schedule, reduce construction costs, and ensure motorist and pedestrian safety. CLOSING Thank you for attending this Public Information Meeting and providing your comments. Your input is an important part of this concept development process. For additional information, please visit or us at RenewAtlanta@AtlantaGa.gov.
