3 DLR.de Chart 3 Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) Single European Sky is a European Commission initiative (established in November 2000) The Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) programme shall provide the needed future technology Definition phase ( ) ATM master plan for the development and deployment of the next generation of ATM systems Development phase: SEASAR 1 ( ) and SESAR 2020 ( ): Develop new generation of technological systems and components Deployment phase ( ) Implementation of the new air traffic management infrastructure
4 DLR.de Chart 4 SESAR development phase SEASAR 1 and SESAR 2020 SESAR Joint Undertaking (SJU) SESAR Joint Undertaking - established in 2007 as a public-private partnership PPP High level aims of the programme are: 3-fold increase in capacity which will also reduce delays both on the ground and in the air Improve safety by a factor of 10 Enable a 10% reduction in the effects flights have on the environment Provide ATM services to the airspace users at a cost of at least 50% less SESAR 1 (2008 to 2016) - budget of 2.1 billion SESAR 2020 ( for Wave 1 and for Wave 2) - budget of 1.6 billion
