3 Knowledge-based Bioeconomy Vision and Objectives Germany pursues the vision of a natural, cycle-oriented, sustainable biobased economy that carries the promise of global food supplies that are both ample and healthy, and of high quality products from renewable resources. With our research, we want to meet our responsibilities for global nutrition, the protection of the climate, efficient use of resources and the environment. 3

12 Destination Bioeconomy Research for a Biobased and Sustainable Economic Growth In 2014 the first half of the strategy s research period had passed and it had been shown that the realisation of a biobased economy strongly depends on managing to involve all participants: researchers, producers of renewable resources, industry and society The BMBF published updated research topics within the brochure Destination Bioeconomy with further emphasis on new innovation processes, the demand for skilled workers, a systemic observation of the bioeconomy and a participative discourse with research, industry, society and politics. 12
13 The 1 st global Bioeconomy Summit, 24 th and 25 th November 2015 in Berlin 700 participants from around 80 countries met to define how bioeconomy contributes to green growth, the sustainable development goals and to climate change. 13
