2 Why we are holding this workshop PwC s Skills for Australia is the Skills Service Organisation (SSO) responsible for the TAE Training Package. The TAE Training Package was updated in April 2016 and we have since received more than 500 queries on how it should be understood and implemented. We want to provide you with clear and consistent advice on how to interpret its content. What do we aim to achieve? The workshop will provide a single point of truth to help you interpret the TAE Training Package s requirements. The workshop will allow us to listen to your feedback and answer your questions. This is not a consultation on possible changes to the TAE Training Package at this point in time. However, we look forward to capturing your feedback on the current training package and your suggestions for the future. 2

4 Key changes to the TAE Training Package Version 2.0 of the TAE Training Package was released in April 2016 What changed? A new Skill Set was added: TAESS00010 Advanced Assessor Skill Set Three training products were significantly updated: TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Two new units (TAEASS502 and TAELLN411) were added to the core units TAE40116 is not equivalent to TAE40110 TAE50116 Diploma of Vocational Education and Training One unit was added (TAELLN501) and one was removed (TAELLN401) from the core units TAE50116 is not equivalent to TAE50111 TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set One unit (TAEASS502) was added Units of Competency were updated to meet Standards for Training Packages. 4
5 What key questions is the sector asking us? Your feedback on the new TAE Training Package has been extensive: since its release we have received more than 500 comments. The table below outlines six topics which have received particular attention. In the session we will address these topics plus a range of other issues. Of course, you can also ask questions on the day. Training Product TAEASS402 Assess competence Question What is meant by the requirement to assess five candidates in a real assessment environment? TAEASS402 Assess Competence What is meant by the requirement to carry out assessment under the supervision of a qualified assessor? TAEASS501 Provide advanced assessment practice What is meant by the requirement to assess 50 UoCs and 20 candidates, and must this be done in a real assessment environment? TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools How are RTOs supposed to interpret and deliver the requirement of assessment tools supporting 3 different assessment methods and 1 UoC each? TAEDEL401 Plan, organise and deliver group-based learning TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills How are RTOs supposed to interpret and deliver the requirement of 3 training sessions, including 2 consecutive sessions of at least 40 minutes duration to learner groups of at least 8 individuals? What is meant by the assessment condition that requires real vocational learners to be used? 5
6 Western Australia s response to the changes What we ve heard so far Much of your feedback is on how to understand and implement changes to the performance evidence or assessment conditions of some units of competency. Most queries are to do with: 1. TAEDEL TAEASS TAEASS502 You also want to know about other changes to training products, and the broader implications of the changes to the TAE Training Package. We will discuss all of these changes during the workshop. What issues matter to you? When you registered for this workshop we asked you to complete a survey identifying which issues mattered most to you. The chart above presents the results for WA and for the whole of Australia. In WA, TAEDEL401 is your biggest concern. Note that the percentages in each graph add up to more than 100%. This is because the survey allowed you to select multiple options. 6
