5 Role of HCMR for Blue Growth HCMR through its facilities, infrastructure and expertise can play a vital role for blue growth by: - Supporting the application of practices for Good Environmental Status - GES (Water Framework Directive, marine strategy,...) - Undertaking environmental monitoring using state-of-the-art approaches -Contributing to environmental planning (Integrated Coastal Zone Management - ICZM, Marine Spatial Planning -MSP, management of NATURA areas) - Contributing to the formulation of Regional and National Policies and Strategies for Development, Smart Specialisation Strategies, etc 5

13 Greece was one of the first three countries that signed the MoU in Dec 2013 (Greece, France, Portugal) Presently 9 countries have signed the MoU (Belgium, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, UK) ERIC application in preparation EMBRC H2020 projects Approved: European Marine Biological Research Infrastructure Cluster to promote the Blue Bioeconomy (EMBRIC), , HCMR budget: 285 K
