It will be delivered in a Marae setting, and will build general life, work, and study skills in a holistic learning and support environment

2 2.2 Content Students will learn foundation knowledge and basic skills in safe working practices; use of specified machinery; residential maintenance including roofing, glazing, flooring, plumbing, concrete works and carpentry with optional BCATS projects Students will apply their basic skills and knowledge in the planning, completion, and quality checking of a minor building project. 6 4 REQUIREMENTS FOR AWARD OF QUALIFICATION 4.1 Courses credit values and levels to be obtained NZQF Credits to achieve the National Certificate in Basic Residential Property Maintenance (Level 2) with an optional strand in Basic Construction Project Work Courses Core Compulsory to achieve the National Certificate in Basic Residential Property Maintenance (Level 2) Programme Requirements 71 Elective One BCATS Projects 12 Elective Two BCATS Projects 7 Minimum credits for Basic Residential Property Maintenance with BCATS Programme 90 Note students are able to obtain the National Certificate in Basic Residential Property Maintenance (Level 2) by achieving the 71 core compulsory credits only. 4.2 Additional Certificates / Qualifications Not Applicable. 4.3 Attendance criteria Tutors will inform students at enrolment of their expectations about attendance and the implications if they are not met. Theory components of this programme are delivered during class contact time. Attendance is compulsory. 4.4 Practical/off-site requirements Practical components of this programme are delivered at an approved workshop facility. Students maybe granted an extension of up to 1 month at the discretion of the course tutor. Students must enter and finish the programme at the set dates as per clause 3.1 Land Based Training Limited Version 3 Page 7 of 10

8 5 ENTRY AND SELECTION CRITERIA 5.1 Entry criteria Applicants Must: Be aged 16 years and over Have left school Meet student residence requirements Meet the relevant funding pool requirements Academic Achievement Applicants whose first language is not English, or who come from a country where the language of instruction in schools or other teaching institutions is not English, require an ELTS (International English Language Testing System) score of 5 or above (or equivalent) for enrolment. Tertiary Education Commission eligibility criteria may apply, please contact Land Based Training on for further information. Life Skills/Work Experience Applicants must have a desire to work in the building industry. 5.2 Selection criteria All applicants will be required to attend a formal interview with the course Field Officer and / or Tutor. Where there are more applicants than places available, a waiting list will be kept. Priority will be given to applicants in order of application receipt and those who are 19 years of age and over. 6 ASSESSMENT OF PRIOR LEARNING (APL) 6.1 Provisions for advising prospective applicants Opportunities for Assessment of Prior Learning are as per LBT s Policy MOD Assessment of Prior Learning. Students are also advised through their Trainee Manual. Recognition of prior learning will only be granted to trainees who demonstrate that they have met the required performance criteria. Trainees are required to undertake an assessment (theory and/or practical) to determine their level of competency. A Record of Learning is required for cross credit or credit transfer arrangements. 6.2 Provisions for application and consideration A completed APL application form must be submitted to LBT. 9 7 ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS 7.1 Assessment method The assessment contained within this programme is competency based. This qualification will be delivered face to face with theory and practical assessments as well as some self directed learning required by the students. Practical assessments will be taught via on-job assessments through workplace sponsors. 7.2 Requirements for submission/return of assessed work Assessments must be submitted on the due date and be completed by the individual seeking credit for that work. Under normal circumstances assessed work will be handed back within two weeks of the due date. 7.3 Departures from prescribed assessment Students with disabilities or recognised conditions of impairment may receive assistance during assessment. In exceptional circumstances, with the prior approval of the Manager, students may be able to complete an assessment in Te Reo Maori, or in sign language. 7.4 Reassessments and resubmissions Trainees are required to meet all the performance criteria in order to demonstrate competency in each element of a unit standard. Should a trainee not meet all the criteria, they will be given the opportunity for a reassessment of the particular area in which they did not demonstrate competency. Reassessment may be undertaken by students in accordance with LBT s Policy MOD7.01 Assessment. 7.5 Appeal of assessments Students may lodge an appeal of assessment result in accordance with LBT s Policy MOD7.01 Assessment. 7.6 Grades Grades will be allocated using competency-based assessment methodology as per LBT Assessment Policy and Procedure. 7.7 Weighting of course work and final examinations to final grades Course work comprises 100% of the assessment. 7.8 Aegrotat Passes Where a trainee is unable to undertake an assessment (for justified reasons such as medical conditions) under prescribed conditions e.g. field trip setting, marae stays, the Tutor may approve competency being assessed under alternative conditions, e.g. delaying assessment date for students, oral assessment on main points of performance criteria, rescheduling field trips or joining the student in with another class. 10 8 HEALTH AND SAFETY 8.1 Requirements and responsibilities Students must comply with any health and safety requirements for specific courses detailed in LBT s policy LER Trainee Code of Conduct. This policy will be published in the Trainee Manual. 9 TRANSITION ARRANGEMENTS 9.1 Description of any transition arrangements Not applicable. 10 MONITORING AND MODERATION 10.1 Provisions for an external monitor External moderation will be attended by a Land Based Training representative as and when required Moderation plan Internal moderation is undertaken as per LBT s Policy MOD Moderation.
