2 Skylights GENERAL INFORMATION Single Dome For natural light transmission. Available square or rectangular, or with pyramid dome. Skylight Function LEXCOR Skylights are a model of efficiency. These windows on the roof are designed to shut out inclement weather, are shaped to wash themselves in rain, can be insulated (double domes), will provide ventilation, access to the roof and even help fight fires. Sometimes a skylight is the only way to bring natural daylight into a building. On a square foot basis, skylights admit far more light and distribute light much more evenly than a vertical window simply because they face directly towards the sky. Skylights may also be used to advantage in building entrances to enhance foyers or spotlight attractive features such as sculptures, murals, paintings, planters, reflecting pools, etc. A whole room roofed over with skylighting can add greatly to the atmosphere of a garden court or restaurant. The use of cheerful, attractive daylighting with dome skylights is leading to new design concepts in residential construction. The natural appeal of bringing the outdoor scene indoors provides a unique sales attraction for home builders. And residents of many existing homes have found that skylights can turn a dark bathroom into a bright one without loss of privacy, make a garage corner or laundry into a cheerfully efficient workspace or inexpensively open up an attic for add-a-room modeling. Skylight Construction Supplied to the building site in pre-assembled form where possible, LEXCOR skylights are constructed of two components - a shatterproof molded acrylic skylight dome and an exclusively designed aluminum curb frame. Domes are offered in a variety of shapes. Curb frames may be mounted to wood or concrete curbs constructed by others, or to preformed metal curbs supplied by LEXCOR. For 102mm Curb Curb, Caulking and Flashing by Others Acrylic Dome colour Domes are offered in a choice of acrylic colour briefly described below: Clear Acrylic (Colorless) Allows maximum light penetration and permits view of sky. Glare from the sun and privacy should be considered when choosing a clear dome. White Acrylic (Translucent) For optimum diffused light and control of solar heat. Most popular for day lighting applications. Tinted Grey and Bronze Transparent colour reduce interior solar heat gain and control glare while permitting clear vision to outdoors. Grey tints provide much natural colour retention. Bronze tints may make outdoors slightly brighter while actually reducing light intensity. Sufficient light is transmitted through tinted domes to support most plant life; lighter densities for plants requiring maximum sunlight, darker densities for plants requiring partial shade. Thickness of acrylic may be 3 mm, 5 mm or 6 mm depending on skylight size. Special colour A wide range of transparent and translucent colour are available for special effect. Double Domes vs Single Domes Although all skylights may be supplied with single domes, double domes are recommended; they provide greater insulation than single domes i.e. will reduce heat build-up in summer and heat loss in winter. Double domes also guard against condensation and reduce sound transmission. The following table shows average U values for acrylic skylights. Values are per.093 m2 (1 sq. foot) of well opening (not dome surface). Metric U value is expressed as W/(m 2 C) and Imperial U value is expressed as Btu/(ft 2 h F). The Standard frame features an outward sloping angle with condensation gutter and weep holes, to channel off condensation. For sloped roofs, weep holes occur on bottom side of frame only. The frame, of slightly different configuration, is supplied with a hollow vinyl thermal barrier. The thermal barrier virtually eliminates the formation of frost around the interior of the curb frame, which if under certain conditions were allowed to accumulate and thaw, might drip into the light well. Aluminum curb frames are mill finished as standard. An optional Duracron (Thermosetting acrylic) 100 architectural metal finish or anodized aluminum finish is available in a wide range of colour at extra cost. Maintenance Acrylic domes are self-washing and require no maintenance; the smooth dome finish and shape discourages dirt. However, if fine cleaning is desired, domes may be cleansed using most household detergents or ammonia and water. Do not use paint thinners, turpentine and similar solvents for cleaning.

NO-FROST FRAME The frame is supplied with a hollow vinyl thermal barrier. The thermal barrier virtually eliminates the formation of condensation around the interior of the curb frame, which if under certain conditions were allowed to accumulate, might drip into the light well. The Standard frame, of slightly different configuration does not have a thermal barrier and is somewhat less expensive than the frame. This frame type is recommended for buildings with a very low humidity level. Both frame types however feature an outward sloping angle with condensation gutter and weep holes, to channel off condensation. Aluminum frames are mill finished as standard. An optional Duracron (Thermosetting acrylic) 100 architectural metal finish is available in a wide range of colour at extra cost..
