3 3" insulated roof installation instructions IMPORTANT NOTES: Inadequate slope is one of the main causes of most insulated roof leaks. A minimum of 1 /2" per foot slope is required. For example, a roof projection of 12' should have a minimum 6" drop. The superior insulated roof system is not designed to carry water drained onto it from the roof of another structure. It is recommended, when possible, to install the insulated roof under the eve overhang and allow the house gutter to drain the roof of the house. If this is not possible, a minimum of 1" per foot slope is required. If the house roof is draining onto the enclosure roof, then the house roof area to be drained must be considered when determining the number of downspouts. General rule-one downspout per 150 square feet. It may be necessary to use false fascia in lieu of front gutter to expel water from existing roof. Improper care in sealing all joints with appropriate sealant is another major cause of insulated roof leaks. Always apply sealant liberally to all joints exposed to the weather. Never install an insulated roof when rain is expected within 4 hours of completion of installation. Make sure framework is plumb and square prior to installing roof panels. Flashing at the wall header is the contractor s responsibility and will further ensure the absence of any roof leaks. * WHEN INSTALLING OVER ENCLOSURES, ALLOW FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE FOOT OVERHANG. 4 Step 1: Wall header channel installation Cut the wall header channel to the correct width and pre-drill 1/4" holes at the point where the rafter tails are at the fascia board. Apply caulk to the back of the wall header channel and place the channel on top of the enclosure wall. Using #12 x 1-1/2" hex screws, attach to fascia board, making sure channel is level. NOTE: Due to the Foam to Foam contact of the Tongue and Groove Roof System you will lose 1 of coverage per seam. Example: If your roof is 20 wide you will have five panels which gives you four seams. Since you have four seams you will subtract four inches from the overall width of the roof. ( = 19 8 ) Your roof coverage is 19 8 and your wall header will need to be cut to that length. NOTE: Some situations will not let the fascia board be a level line for the wall channel, so check first with the level. Once this is done, you are ready for the first roof panel. Step 2: Roof panel installation Roof panels have a Tongue and Groove side. After finding both on the roof panel, place the tongue side to the outside of the room. The tongue will need to be removed so the side fascia will install onto it. Now that the first panel is in place, measure out from the house to the center of the outside wall. Using this dimension, attach the insulated roof to top cap with lag bolts about every 16" to 22". At this point you are ready to install the second, third, etc. roof panels. Run a bead of 100 % silicone down (see page #5) the groove of the first panel and the groove of the second panel. Now raise the second panel slightly to lock it into panel one and slide back into the wall header channel. Once panels are together use #8 x ½ Tek screws to secure the Aluminum skin Overlap of panel #2 into panel #1 (see page 5) Repeat with the remainder of the roof panels. Note: The longer you wait to lock panels together the harder it will be to slide panels back to wall header channel. Caulk seams between panels to insure a "no leak situation". 4" peel & seal tape is strongly suggested for use on seams. Also locate where optional fan beam is located. page 4

SKIN TONGUE & GROOVE PANEL ASSEMBLY (INSULATED PANEL) Before locking insulated panel apply a 1 /4" bead of sealant in the sealant reservoir as shown. Once roof panel is locked in place, panel joints must be sealed from the top. This must be done immediately (before inner sealant skims over) for proper seal. After applying sealant, do not walk on top or allow roof movement. You may weaken the adhesion of the seal. It is recommended that a good self-adhesive flashing tape be used on the four joints in addition to both ends of panels where they come in contact with the fascia/gutter and wall header channel SUBTRACT 1 PER PANEL CONNECTION FOR OVERALL ROOF COVERAGE (IN THE ABOVE DRAWING YOU WOULD SEAL 4 EA. 10 JOINTS AND AT THE WALL HEADER AND FASCIA JOINTS) INSULATED ROOF - TOP VIEW page 5

6 4 INSULATED ROOF PANEL These areas on the top of insulated panel must be sealed properly. Caulk over the neoprene washers on screws that attach roof to walls and/or beams. It is important to keep fascia gutter cleaned of all debris to ensure proper drainage. Use 4 Tek Screws with 3 thick roof and 5 Tek Screw with 4 thick roof panel. 3 INSULATED ROOF PANEL TEK SCREW TEK SCREW SEALING TOP OF ROOF page 6

7 3 OR 4 INSULATED ROOF PANEL Header channel should be attached to the wall at 16" on center. Wall fasteners are the responsibility of the installer and should be appropriate for wall type. #12 x 1 1 /2" hex washerhead screw recommended for standard installation. Attach insulated panel to wall header channel with #8 x 1 /2" tek screws at 12" centers. Flashing must be sealed at point "B" and tucked under shingles or sealed at point "A". Step 3: Installation of lag bolts Now that all roof panels are properly installed, Tek Screws can be installed on width and second projection. Use caulk on top of 3 /8" x 4" Tek Screw, or 3 /8" x 5" Tek Screw. Step 4: Gutter and fascia installation Pull tape and cut extruded front gutter fascia to the width of the roof system. Place gutter onto panels using 1 /4" tek screw, attach through gutter into 3"or 4" roof panels. Now measure projection distance. Cut side fascia and attach onto 3" roof panels, again using 1 /4" tek screws through lip on side fascia into roof panels. Use provided 3/4" x 1-1 /4" trim angle to trim outside corners of fascia. Now you can attach water scuppers or downspouts. page 7

8 Step 5: Flashing and cosmetic touch-up Flash properly from existing roof onto 3" or 4" insulated roof to insure no leaks. Use caulk to touch up seams, lines or other places that may need to be sealed for better look or water protection. CEILING FANS: A fan beam can be used to secure heavy fans or lights, and can also act as a conduit for electrical wire. These 1 1 /2" x 3" fan beams are centered in the width of the panel. To install an electrical and/or fan box, locate center line of fan beam and attach box to underside with four #10 x 1 1 /2" sheet metal screws. Do not use screws that will exceed roof panel thickness or drill holes through panel. page 8

11 Problems to Avoid CHECKLIST Call Backs Can Be Expensive! Inadequate slope of roof structure (minimum 1 /2 per foot of projection of roof panel). Improper caulking or sealing of roof and wall panels. Failure to properly seal roof panels together. Failure to drill weep holes in starter channels. Failure to properly flash between primary roof and Superior roof. Walking on roof after it has been sealed and caulked. Failure to allow enough downspouts/scuppers for roof drainage (recommend one downspout per 150 square foot of roof) Improper overhang of Superior roof (minimum 1 per side and projection recommended). Not allowing enough time for sealants to dry and cure before rain. Failure to leave 1 /4 gap between roof panel and fascia gutter that allows panel interlocks to drain. notes page 11
