5 Installation overview Gyroc MF Susension from concrete soffit Gyframe GA Perimeter Angle is fixed to the wall at maximum 600 centres. Gyframe Soffit cleats are secured to the soffit at secified centres, using aroriate fixings, Gyframe GA Steel Angles are re-cut and secured to the Gyframe soffit cleats. Gyframe MF7 Primary Suort Channels are installed over the Gyframe GA Perimeter Angles. Fix hangers (two er fixing) to Gyframe MF7 Primary Suort Channel using Gyroc Wafer Head Jack Point Screws. Gyframe MF Ceiling Sections are run at right angles to the underside of rimary channels to form the secondary grid. The ceiling sections are secured to the rimary channels by using two Gyroc Wafer Head Jack-Point Screws. Gyroc Boards are fixed to the secondary grid to form single or multi-layer linings as secified. Board fixings Board fixings for Gyroc boards should be at 0 centres at board-ends, and at 0 centres within the field of the board. Board fixings for Gytone boards should be at 0 and Rigitone boards at 70 centres across board-ends and through the field of the board. 6

The single figure rating ractical sound absortion coefficient αw is calculated in accordance with EN ISO 6. 0 Design Cavity barriers Where cavity barriers are required, these can be formed using Gyroc FireSto screw-fixed to a simle metal or timber frame. The framing should be fixed to the structure to avoid undue loading of the ceiling susension grid or, alternatively, additional hangers should be incororated to suort the ceiling alongside the cavity barrier Relative humidity Gyroc MF ceilings lined with Gyroc or Gytone boards are suitable for use under normal occuancy conditions. Buildings in which they are used should be dry, glazed and enclosed, with environmental conditions of no greater than 70% RH at 0 C to 0 C. For high humidity / high moisture conditions use Gyroc moisture resistant (MR) lasterboard variants. Acoustic erformance Gytone boards are erforated and designed to rovide sound absortion when used in conjunction with an airsace behind the ceiling. Increased levels of sound absortion can be achieved by including insulation over the back of the ceiling. Where sound insulation room-to-room is required, sound attenuation (Dncw) of 9dB can be achieved by the inclusion of 00 Isover APR over the back of the ceiling. Alternatively, other design considerations should be adoted such as extending adjoining artitions into the lenum void or installing a lenum barrier. Thermal erformance Isover insulation can be laid over the susension grid to rovide the required standard of thermal insulation. Contact Gyroc Technical Suort for further guidance. Susension - Gyroc and Gytone board linings The ceiling grid can be susended from a concrete soffit using Gyframe soffit cleats and Gyframe GA Steel Angle to rovide a robust susension suort, which restricts any flexing of the lining when ressure is alied from below. If fixing Gyframe GA Steel Angle direct to the soffit, the angle is cut and bent to fit. This will reduce the maximum loads that the grid is caable of suorting by %. Furthermore, fixing Gyframe GA Steel Angles direct is not suitable if the ceiling is likely to deflect due to varying ressures. Suitable fixing devices should be emloyed when fixing to the structure. Susension - Rigitone board linings Gyframe MF7 Primary Suort Channels are fixed at 000 centres. Fixing oints to the structure for the Gyframe MF7 Primary Suort Channels are required at centres. In addition to this, the Gyframe MF Ceiling Section should be installed at nominal 0 - centres. 6

14 Partition to susended ceiling junction In situations where a GyWall metal stud artition asses through a Gyroc MF ceiling, which is to both sides of the artition and aroriately fixed to both this artition and erimeter artitions / walls, consideration can be given to the lateral restraint rovided by the ceiling when develoing the artition secification. The relevant maximum height is the greater of the floor to Gyroc MF ceiling or ceiling to structural soffit height. Care should be taken during installation of tall artitions so as to not adversely affect their erformance. Contact Gyroc Technical Team for further guidance. Where a GyWall metal stud artition is fixed to the framework of a Gyroc MF ceiling, in accordance with Gyroc s installation instructions, the ermissible maximum height is equal to that of where it is fixed direct to a structural soffit of the same height. Jointing - Rigitone boards Mix the Rigitone Vario jointing material with clean water (aroximately.8l of water to kg of Vario) and fill a Rigitone Installation Kit with the mixture. Aly the filler to the joints ensuring the joints are comletely full, including nominal -0 gas around the erimeter. Failure to fully fill the joint can cause the joint to crack. The filler should be left to dry for a minimum of 0 minutes before striking the excess material away from the joint. Allow all the joints to dry for a minimum of hours before finishing. Mask the erforations either side of the joints using wet aer tae. Fill the joints and screw heads using Vario Joint Filler, let the material roject slightly from the boards to allow for shrinkage and sanding. To finish a joint where the room layout or design detail has required a Rigitone board to be cut, fill all holes falling on the joint using Rigitone Vario and finish with a layer of Vario. Once a joint has been filled, remove the masking aer tae iediately. Lightly sand once dry. Remove dust from the board surface and roller aly Primer (by others) to the entire surface ready for decoration. When roller alying Primer and aint finishes, care should be taken to ensure rimer or aint does not fill the erforations in the board, as this will imair acoustic erformance. Imosed loads Tables 6 and 7 rovide loading data for the susension grid for Gyroc and Gytone boards resectively. Maximum loads will be reduced by % when Gyframe GA Steel Angle is fixed directly to the soffit (modified loads are shown in brackets). Where light fittings, access anels and similar comonents are incororated as art of the design requirements, consideration must be given to maintaining the integrity of the ceiling to meet fire resistance and sound insulation requirements. Fixtures Fixings to the system should always be made into the metal grid or to sulementary framing. Some adjustment of the rimary grid may be required to suort articularly heavy loads, see Tables 6 and 7. Where loads outside this range are anticiated, indeendent susension should be rovided from the structure. Gyroc MF Control joints Control joints may be required in the ceiling to relieve stresses induced by exansion and contraction of the structure. It is recoended that they coincide with movement joints within the surrounding structure. Suitably fix Gyframe GA hangers to soffit using Gyframe soffit cleat and nut & bolt. Alternatively, Gyframe GA Steel Angle can be cut, bent and drilled to facilitate direct fixing to the structure (maximum loads will be reduced by % if using this method). NB For double layer ceiling lease refer the table 6 and 7 Plasterboard Tyes The lasterboards shown in the erformance tables throughout these White Book sections are tyically Regular or FireSto boards. It is ossible to have additional roerties of MR (Moisture Resistance), MTECH (moisture & mold resistance) or Activ Air (to imrove indoor air quality) added to these lasterboard tyes. Using these 'enhanced versions' of the lasterboards will not have any detrimental effect on either the fire, acoustic or structural erformances as shown in the erformance tables in these White Book sections. 6
