11 the IYF gave the chance to demonstrate the forest and the forestry to many people over 1,000 partners over 7,000 events in the German forest high level events with the Federal President and several Ministers bringing the forest into the urban area successful the German Government decided the Forest Strategy 2020 that strengthened the sustainable use of forest 11
12 German forest sector has the opportunity to create and do a campaign important to have one all over logo/key massage etc. important to have a central campaign office to create a successful campaign you have to involve partners create ideas central and let the local organization carry it out central money is good but the high commitment of the actors (foresters, forest owners etc) is better the interest in forests is very limited lessons learned 12
13 German federal system makes central organisation difficult (work together with a federal ministry takes time ) every partner wants to be the sender professional central organisation costs lot of money paper and timber sector didn t support the campaign capacity of those people that organize the local events was limited ( burn out ) forest is reduced to nature protection problems public-private-partnership is very difficult in Germany 13
14 Year of Sustainability 2013 campaign from the German Forestry Council for 300 years of sustainability (Carlowitz Sylvicultura oeconomica, published in 1713) Goal 1: to show off the sustainable use of forests (the sustainable way is realized in the forest sector) partner are the members of the GFC especially the state forest administrations of the counties financed by themselves (bottom up) central campaign office is planned but not yet financed Goal 2: Etablish an central forest sender: The German Forestry 14
