1 Clean Up Mauritius and Embellishment Campaign
2 Ministerial Committee on Clean Up Mauritius and Embellishment Campaign Government has set up a Ministerial Committee to be chaired by Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Housing and Lands in the wake of heavy rainfall and cyclonic seasons. All relevant stakeholders have been convened for awareness and for a brainstorming prior to the Ministerial Meeting.
3 Multi-Sectoral Task Force Multi-Sectoral Task Force to achieve results and to attend to the responsibility for a clean and embellished Mauritius This campaign is also being conducted to ensure that prior to the celebrations of the National Day Celebrations, all the coins et recoins of Mauritius are clean and spotless.
4 Strategy for Clean Up Mauritius and Embellishment Campaign There should be: A. Multi Sectoral Collaboration B. Community Participation Roles of each of the stakeholders to be spelt out.
5 Relevant Stakeholders: Senior Public Officials Prime Minister s Office, the National Development Unit, the Mauritius Ports Authority, Civil Aviation Department, DCP (Mr Jugroo) and the Special Mobile Force (SMF); Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities, CEB and CWA; Ministry of Public Infrastructure and Land Transport, the Technical Officers (Engineers) and the RDA; Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research; Ministry of Tourism and the MTPA; Ministry of Health and Quality of Life; Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity, and Environment and Sustainable Development; Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security; Ministry of Ocean Economy, Marine Resources, Fisheries and Shipping Mauritius Oceanography Institute Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training; Ministry of Local Government and Outer Islands and all Local Authorities.

8 Role of the Multi-Sectoral Task Force Identify and monitor measures to be implemented by each sector Meet on a weekly basis up to the 11 th of March 2017 to review progress and advise the government on the measures being taken and thereafter meet on a monthly basis. Continue meeting to maintain the state of cleanliness
9 Role of the Multi-Sectoral Task Force The Ministry of Public Infrastructure and the RDA will ensure that highway strips on motorways and on classified roads and the round-abouts are planted with low shrubs, the grass is properly clipped and that these places are embellished. The Ministry of Tourism and the MTPA will have to sensitize hotels and all touristic organizations on the need to support the Cleanup Mauritius and Embellishment Campaign.
10 Role of the Multi-Sectoral Task Force The Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity, and Environment and Sustainable Development will have to ensure environmental cleanliness in relation to bare lands, riverbanks, provide waste litter bins and provide additional workforce to other organizations whenever required. The Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security will have to sensitize planters and its stakeholders on the Clean Up Mauritius Campaign and on the need to keep their agricultural land in a proper state.
11 Role of the Multi-Sectoral Task Force The Ministry of Local Government and Outer Islands will ensure proper management of bare lands and wastelands and take legal actions against offenders and will carry general cleaning campaigns in collaboration with Forces Vives. The SMF will ensure provision of additional workforce for cleaning activities whenever required.
12 Role of the Multi-Sectoral Task Force The Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research will ensure a clean environment within its premises and sensitize its students on cleanliness. Other Ministries and the private and business sectors will be requested to support the campaign as well as ensure environmental cleanliness within their respective sectors.
13 Social Mobilization and Communication
14 Social Mobilization and Communication Key components for a sustainable state of cleanliness. Aim at promoting public awareness and community participation. Behavioral change is an important prerequisite to reduce the sources of an unclean state. There is a need to change the mind set of the whole population as far as a clean environment is concerned.
15 Social Mobilization and Communication Sources of an unclean state include, inter-alia: Elimination of rubbish lying on the ground everywhere, such as bottles, paper, tyres etc. Proper management of water storage device. Education, information and communication: the approach here should be massive, repetitive, intense and persistent via radio, television, newspapers and other available media to engage the people in recommended behavior change. This is to be supported by education materials, such as pamphlets and flyers as well as community based education and awareness sessions.
16 Dedicated Sub-Committees Each Committee to work on an action plan including a situation analysis and the way forward, including short term, medium and long term objectives. Workshops to be held to coordinate the plan of each Committee. The publication of the overall plan to be launched in due course. Implementation of the plan. Evaluation and monitoring.

23 The Way Forward The Multi Sectoral Task Force Committee will examine the recommendations of the committees. The Ministerial Committee will evaluate and monitor progress. The Ministerial Committee is meeting on Friday 17 February to finalise the constitution of the Committees and their terms of reference. You have all been made aware of the tasks we have been assigned. As from next week, we expect the Committees to start working on their respective tasks.
